President Obama is vowing to call attention to immigration issues in his first months in office, but he is stopping short of promising to introduce immigration reform legislation anytime soon.

In a 10-minute interview Thursday with Univision’s Spanish-language radio show, El Pistolero, Obama was asked if he would act on immigration reform within three months.

“What I’ve said is that, in the first 90 days, I want to get a group of members of Congress who are interested in the issue, employers, workers, immigrants rights groups, I want to get them around the table to start moving forward on the agenda,” Obama said. “There are a lot of things that we can do to help prepare for comprehensive immigration reform. For example, one thing that we can do right away is to start making it easier for people who are applying for legal immigration status to apply and do so in a way that is not so expensive for them—where we’re eliminating some of these backlogs so families can reunify more quickly.”
How about pushing for dream act to be passed Mr.President?

It is dissapointing that he has stopped voicing support for the dream act since he won the elections and became president.

I'm surprised Univision didn't ask a question about it.

Maybe P.Obama didn't want to mention it with immigration since it may be included in a upcoming education bill. Who knows.

really disappointed with his response. They want to reduce the fee and they consider that to be accomplishment? Really ? I'm really sad and losing faith.

Okay, sunny_thedreamer!!!!

It takes FOREVER to move legislation through Congress, especially the Senate. Even popular legislation gets stuck for months.

You and other immigrants ruin it for the rest of us because you ask too much too soon too fast!

I am a dreamie myself, but I understand that I am here illegally, and if this U.S. Governmnet decideds to pass the DREAM Act and give me a chance and forgive my illegal entry, then great!!!

You need to stop whining so much!!!
Intead of whining start sending out letters to all the Congressmen and Senators most likely to support the DREAM Act once its introduced.

Action is what we need, not devour every single word that Obama says about immigration

You all know that if C.I.R. is debated this year, no way in HELL that it will pass!

We need the DREAM Act first and separated from C.I.R.

Good point!, I agree on that. President Obama has lots of things to worry and fight for. Not just dream, Yet he continues to defend our cause, and he is probably just waiting for the right time. Is like having lunch for breakfast, it won't match together.. so we wait for lunch and it works out well. Now think DREAM as our lunch, and we are in breakfast, we are getting hungry, and we will soon have lunch. Yet it needs to be prepared first. So I believe we are getting ready for it and maybe senate is too. But just now we are in the middle of a huge bill, (stimulus bill) senate is in the middle of something. Hopefully soon we'll have a good lunch.

I am sure it has pretty good chances. It has more chances than in any other time in the last presidency. Yet, it was only a few votes away.

Well true John Smith, but you must consider that right now, C.I.R. would be extremely unpopular with the public because of the economy.

The DREAM Act would still face a lot of criticism, but not as much, and Senators that are retiring, such as Mel Martinez and Voinovich are more than likely to support it.

What we really need is to make it clear to the Democratic leadership in the House that we can't afford to have a long debate on C.I.R. with the DA in it, and then if C.I.R. fails, then are chances of reviving the DREAM Act will be much smaller.

I have read sunny_thedreamer post and he sounds very anti-government anyway. He must come into good understanding about how Congress actually works.

There are rules, stupid procedures that must be followed.

Plus, as an illegal immigrant myself, I don't think I have the right to DEMAND this government to give me something that I don't necessarily have under current law.

The DREAM Act is about extending such priviledge and understanding our plight.

What I hated the most was how ridiculous those immigration rallies looked!!!

Just hear Spanish media. They have a tone of demanding and calling everyone racist for not supporting C.I.R. Although the majority of people that oppose C.I.R. or DA for that matter, are in fact ingorant, but there is a good chunk that are truly concerned with the population growth and birth rate among Hispanics-which should be controlled because the bigger the population, the lower the quality of life we will inheret.

C.I.R. should be made more stringent and seclusive, while the DREAM Act should be made fraud-proof so it is passed.

Juan J.

we have to be patient guys..
I think its enough with him being the president now..
But he's clearly on our side..
his former Senior Senator is sponsoring the bill. for geezz's sake!!
He's obviously not talking about it without being asked..
I hate to say it but he has PRIORITIES right now,
and him bringing up the subject would be rather random,
in the heat of the foreclosure market and the recent passing of
The Stimulus package.
In my opinion, he's being smart and taking it all in stride..
he's focusing on the nation as a whole, at the moment.
But i believe CIR is coming soon! (summerish)
and obama should'nt be our focus,
its the senate and the house
were rather certain that he will sign off on it if it reaches his desk

Well, it seems some people expected Obama to just deliver after becoming president. The true is, the job is far from over. Now, he needs our support to create the pressure to make the Dream Act pass. I can say it in other words, he needs to be pressured into making the Dream Act a priority.

Daily, thousands of organizations bring thousands of issues to the table. Yes, the economy is important but the Dream Act is also very important and it is the issue of our lives. No politician -and even many organizations - will make this a priority because they live in abstract world. In their idealism, they would rather wait 10 years and pass CIR than to pass the Dream Act now. 'Cause, you know, CIR is a damn real legacy and it will look awesome in the history books.

That is, they do not have to live in the shadows like us. They do not have to take the bus or drive without a DL. They do not have to be paid less than what their work is work and in jobs that they are over qualified. They are not you. Thus, you, from all people, need to go to the goverment and those wonderful pro-immigrant organizations and tell them that the Dream Act is both a priority and it is urgent.

Since i am already piss off. I am demanding for my status to be adjusted because it is unfair that I am undocumented. I spend half my life in California and it is the place where I want to live forever. It is the greatest place in the world and I want to make sure that it will forever be the greatest place to live and die in the world. That has to be worth something.
If this country is giving me a handout, then it is fair for me to be undocumented. It should be done when they feel like it, at the right moment...and let me burst your bubble, that moment is never. This is the United States of America, we will always have an myriad of issues to solve. First, we solve the issues and then if we feel like it we give handouts to those who might needed it but not necessarily deserve. Because they do not have the right for it.

Leaving the Dream Act to develop naturally, like a peach, instead of making it work hurts America because taxpayers moneys were spend educating this dreamers. The fair thing is for them to stay and better the USA and pay taxes on their high income. Some of those Dreamers are teachers and nurses, two areas where there is a high demand. Cities and towns are being hurt by not being able to gain their labor.

Finally, it comes the the core of what it means to be an American. Is having a piece of paper that says so make you an American? if that is so, what a sad thing it is. Some people are citizens and they hate America, some people are legal residents and they hate American, some people come to this country as legal residents and they did it for a job. I am illegal because I love America too much to leave. I have work hard to make my community and my country better. I left half my life in this country, and yet, I am less American than they guy that sell CIA information to Russia. I am less American that the guy who made the Oklahoma explosion. I am less American because a piece of paper. Where is the justice on that?

Yea i have noticed that about the major immigrant right groups too. Frank sharry and CO, they want the whole things and don't really care about pushing for dream act as a down payment to CIR. If they all banded together and started really pushing for the dream act to be passed ASAP, maybe something might happen but for now they don't want that.
