A federal court is closed for "Mardi Gras". Yes, I know that is in La. Still, no one, no one, could ever offer me enough money to move to Texas. Ever. It's a cesspool of regressivism in life, science, and morality. No, thank you. Also, I've never met a Texan I've liked.

@IamAman and others: As soon as this is lifted, forget your expensive attny and your doubts, dude; get your app in there asap.

If the Republicans somehow win this lawsuit, you can be 100% sure that the original DACA will be in their crosshairs too.

For now, let's see how the appeal process will go. All I know is I feel like someone punched me in the gut right now.
I have always thought that. I have no idea how they manage to keep winning Texas. It really should be blue by now.

The Silver Lining
Ironically, however, the fact that Hanen’s opinion casts a cloud of doubt over the legality of DACA may be its most hopeful sign for undocumented immigrants. The Arizona decision did not simply emphasize the executive branch’s “broad discretion” over many immigration-related matters, it was handed down just days after Obama announced the DACA program. Indeed, Justice Antonin Scalia railed against DACA in his opinion dissenting from the majority in Arizona.

If a majority of the justices found DACA legally problematic, it would be very unusual for them to emphasize the scope of the executive branch’s discretion just days after President Obama announced the DACA program. It would be even more unusual for them to do so when one of their brethren specifically criticized that policy in dissent.

The fact that Hanen’s logic appears to extend to DACA, in other words, may be Hanen’s undoing. A majority of the Supreme Court, including two of the Court’s Republicans, have already hinted that Hanen’s opinion is wrong.

Best advice to everyone affected.

Get your application together and be ready to submit it because it is only a matter of WHEN this will be lifted. I'm crossing my fingers that it will be a two week wait at the most.

I'm stunned and speechless. I've waited years for this since I was over the age for the original DACA and now to have it within reach and for it to be snatched one day before official application is horrific. Republicans are screwing with people's lives. We don't matter to them and we're not even a blip on their radar.

Wait, aren't you in Texas?
I can't hold the entire state accountable for the acts of the rural and suburban voters. I know many people who were actively involved in trying to get votes for Wendy Davis. I've also met some of the most wonderful friends and all the people I care about are here. Texas will eventually turn blue but I'm not sure if I want to be around to suffer through while it happens. Or maybe I'm stubborn and instead of going after the low hanging fruit of a liberal state, stay here and take pleasure out of seeing the Republicans run out of the state.

As far as my attorney and application goes, I've been talking to them all week getting my stuff together and we were ready to go as soon as the official application was released and we knew the exact application fees. Not sure why you guys keep harping on the "expensive lawyer" as if it somehow puts me behind the eight ball.

Bingo. Maybe it's a good thing for us to get one last glimpse at the evil of their hearts so we won't ever forget it. A lot of people on here have short memories and don't realize how delicate and game changing DACA was. Look back at the posts of people calling Obama names and saying he should just give everybody this or that and how both parties are the same. Any immigrant who cares about reform is an absolute moron if they even think about voting for any Republican.

It seems like this is only affecting last year's executive order...for now.
