I don't think any of us live in a fairyland. We are all dealing with a problem that keeps us grounded in what's happening in the real world. But realistically, I don't see the Dems agreeing to the wall. It's too expensive and hated by their base and they wouldn't sacrifice it for just 800000 people who won't be able to vote for at least 5 years. Chain migration is a similar issue. There are plenty of new Democratic voters that will exist by keeping chain migration in place.

I realize that you think that as a liberal arts major, I'm supposed to be touchy feely. But I also have an applied math major. Rationality is really important to me and I try really hard to make it clear when I'm opining and when I'm stating facts. But I also care about nuances of individual peoples' lives and try to empathize with what they're feeling, something that I feel like isn't really considered in right wing politics.

We should tell them we are willing to pay for the wall by paying for fines.

If Dems keep pressure on republicans they will crack, but if they give in to their demands this will enbolden them and only god knows what will they demand next.

Pelosi said on Monday the budget and DACA issues were linked. "We won't sign off on DACA until we have a caps deal," she said.

But she added: "I think the opportunity is there. I do think the president sincerely would like to deal with DACA. I think ... a large number of Republicans would vote for a DACA agreement."

House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy assured the legislative fix to the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program won’t be attached to an upcoming must-pass spending bill Monday, despite calls from House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi to link the two issues.

The California Republican said Democrats are aware and have agreed to DACA — the Obama-era initiative that extended temporary legal status to foreign nationals who illegally entered the country as minors — being taken care of in a stand-alone bill.

Republicans are fucking liars. What Democrat ever agreed to that?

Senate democrats will definitely not vote to shut the government down. Our only path forward is a compromise agreement or House Dems withholding their votes.

The thing is that dems will cave in every time, they are paid to lose. They only please their donors. There isn't going to be a shutdown. We just need them to find the sweet spot to please trump with enough border security to call it a win for his base without using a lot of money for it. If they don't come to an agreement, I'll just get my cigarettes ready because I like to have a smoke after I get fucked.

We have to keep pressure on Dems to do the right thing.

What's wrong with the wall?
