With the lame-duck session winding down, Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) said Saturday the Senate would hold procedural votes next week on a series of Democratic-backed bills, including one which provides a path to citizenship for illegal immigrants brought to the United States as children.

Reid said he would file cloture motions on the bills Monday night, setting up Wednesday votes to move forward on the measures. On Tuesday, the Senate will begin deliberating whether to remove a Louisiana federal judge, Thomas Porteous, from the bench after he was impeached by the House on corruption charges.

The majority leader is aiming to adjourn the lame-duck session by Dec. 17, a full week before Christmas.

By holding votes next week on immigration, a health care bill for 9/11 rescue workers and a cost-of-living adjustment for seniors, Reid said it “leaves a pretty clear path” to tackle larger issues like tax cuts, a government spending bill, ratification of the START nuclear-arms treaty, and possibly the massive defense bill which includes the repeal of “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy.

The House also is expected to hold a vote on the immigration measure, known as the DREAM Act, next week.

In recent days, calls from the Obama administration, the Hispanic community and immigrant advocates urging congressional action on the bill have intensified. But the measure isn’t expected to receive the 60 votes needed to advance in the Senate, as Republicans vowed this week to block any legislation brought up before the chamber deals with expiring Bush-era tax cuts and funding for government operations.

The vote is coming, I hate to sound like a broken record, but guys lets push really, really, hard to muster the support for this to pass, very critical we keep our Morale and Activism very High, Lets call, like never before, it baffles me how we are estimated at 2.0 million beneficiaries, and have not gotten more than 25,000 calls in favor for D.A. in congress ????, regardless lets all work in uniformity. ...

So by voting on all this it leaves time to debate and pass tax cuts ? Yet, republicans plan to block everything before they get their way.

God have mercy on us

I think ^^^ that was then, and now Reid has an agreement with GOP Mitch McConnell to allow votes:

Speaking midway through a rare Saturday morning session on tax-cut votes, Reid said he will file procedural motions on Monday to set up cloture votes on Wednesday for an impeachment proceeding against a judge and various other procedural motions including the DREAM Act. Reid said he made the decision based on agreements with GOP Leader Mitch McConnell (Ky.) .

O.K., from what I've highlighted in bold, there appears to be an agreement between Reid and McConnel regarding votes, so for all we know they have may have found a way to break the famous "Republicans will block everything until taxes are agreed to B.S", if that is correct, that means we would have Bennett and Lugar will vote yes on D.A. We need to keep calling on our Republican target list, lets call Dreamers , I just called and Hatch's D.C. inbox is not filled.

^^^ C'mon guys we can at least approach it with Enthusiasm, we asked for this vote, This is a great fight to have, we fought for it, its coming, not withstanding the circumstances under which the vote may take place, lets hope Senator's approach this with reason, .... It does not help us to keep saying, this sucks, we don't have the votes, its not going to happen, my two thoughts, regardless of outcome will vent after the vote, ....

D-A kindly don't send mixed messages in the forum, brosef lawyer the hell out of the text, interpretations of the text can be challenged, and also per the legislative process it needs to go to conference , if we clear it, the final version may include your good self, that said, lets concentrate on our Activism.

They're smarter than that than you think. Don't give in to negative ads. It's not over til' it fails. I'm no DA_User, but this is the time, we have the pentagon, secretary of education, homeland security Napolitano, Colin Powell, and etc. backing us. This is the biggest momentum we ever had. Of course its not going to be easy, there will be a lot of haters but don't give in to any of them. There will be time. People who say its dead are the ones who will apply first and cry tears of joy when it passes.
