Idiots. There's no difference than a USC SSN. Those workers at that store are dumb.

You shouldn't have to show anyone your SSN card, only employeers. You only need to know the number when applying for anything else.

You showed them the card and they saw that it says valid only for work. That's why they told you that.

^ Yup. Dumb dumb dumb idiots dumb dumb. The sentence on the card reads "Valid for work only with DHS authorization." It's a shame idiot dummies can't read english properly without punctuation marks. It's meant to say "Valid for work, only with DHS authorization," meaning the SSN is valid for everything else its valid for, and it's only valid for work, if there is DHS authorization (EAD). Instead they're interpreting it "Valid for work only, with DHS authorization," which is grammatically incorrect in a single sentence. It's also a shame SSA didn't bother to put that comma to make our lives easier.

Go to another T-Mobile, don't show your SS card. Just your ID and verbally say you SSN when they ask for it for the credit check. However, if they can't get a verification of the SSN (cause it's new/no credit history) they might ask to make a copy of it... if they refuse it, go to another store again, and hope there's not idiots working there.

Don't show them your SSN card. An idiot at Verizon once told my sister that they couldn't take a Mexican ID when she show them her green card as id.

You're not suppose to carry your SSN with you, just memorize your number.
