My mom keeps asking, "What if McCain wins? What would you do?"

It's making me so worried.

:: DREAM stands a better chance of passing the senate and house if McCain is the president. How quickly we forget, McCain has and still does support DREAM.

We just deal with the how to get around the "secure the borders" BS that even he knows is ridiculous, because you can't secure the borders without first fixing the legal immigration system. No matter what he does to "secure the borders", it's not going to stop undocumented immigration. He knows this and will pass some bills that put up a wall and then move on to passing real reform his second year. Obama would try to go for DREAM his first year and it's anyone's guess if he can muster up enough votes to get it through congress.

It's by no means the end of the world. Remember, CIR passed the senate under republican control.

I still haven't decided if McCain or Obama are better for DREAM.

You can spend all the nights from now till Nov. 4th piss worried about that but there is nothing we can do except get out the vote for Obama. After all that work, it still comes down to the night of Nov. 4th. So just take comfort in the fact that this is how democracy works in all its glory and troubles.

So don't worry about something thats out of our control and keep doing well in whatever you're doing.

You didn't even make it until the next post to contradict yourself.

Vivace, in the event that McCain wins, it's not the end for Dream. Those of us that support Obama, is because he's a "better" choice for Dream, not necessarily the "only" choice. One should note that Obama has openly supported the Dream Act time and time again, whereas McCain plays more of a political game to shy away from it. For some us, that's not the chance we want to take, since that's what Bush did. Also, there are other factors that could derive from Obama's success, such as Sen. Durbin gaining political leverage.

As much as I don't want him to win, I am not worry one bit about McCain when it comes to the Dream Act if he wins. It just means that we are going to have to do a whole lot more to get it to pass the House and Senate, because I really don't think he is going to do much on the Hill to get it pass but he will sign it if it reaches his desk.

I was actually in DC when that CIR bill passed & can definitely tell you that the Senate Republicans knew that the bill wasn't going to be considered in the House, hence why a good amount of Republicans voted for it.

I believe that an Obama Presidency is still better for Dream act for numerous reasons, but the number 1 is because I believe him & Durbin would be extremely close allies.I'm also not sure a McCain presidency can even get a bill considered in what is likely to be a democratic Congress come November.

^ Bingo.

And just to elaborate: worry about getting enough PRO-DREAM Senate seats (although I'm sure this is what Alex meant; I just wanted to bug him. It's been awhile Alex ).
