Does anyone know if you need to provide a social or anything of that nature to obtain a bartending license in NYC?? I've tried checking this on my own online but if you know anything I'd appreciate the input.

P.S. I ask because its an awesome paying part time job lol

I think it would depend on the owner. if they decide to pay you under the table, then no, but if they want to put you in the payroll, then expect to be asked for a SSN

Jay, it depends on the type of license, state, and school. So you probably have to do some more in depth research on the school you want to get your license from.

I mean in NY State there is no "License" thats given by the government. Its just like a certificate by each school. I just wasnt sure if you need a social to obtain this certificate. I guess I'm gunna have to make an anonymous call lol

I live in TX an there is a government division who is in charge of all that type of license. It is called T.A.B.C., stand for Texas Alcohol and Beverage Commission. I obtained my license through and online website because going in person to take the required course to get the certificate demanded me to show a valid US ID and SSN. So, I decide to go online and I took the course, payed $18.00, passed the test and I got my state approved certificate in less than a week. I used my ITIN. I hope this helps.

well in boston all you need is to be TIPS certified, this allows you to serve liquor in MA. all states are different, now most places wont hire you if you dont have experience. so look for a bar back gig at first, then you learn how to be fast and work the crowd. i bartend every now and then. and no, you should not drink on the job, treat it like every other job and be professional. if you want my suggestion, get a bartending gig at a nice place, then get your real state/rentals license. and if you a good talker, that goes hand on hand.

lucky~~~ bartending jobs are hard to get. You almost always have to start as a barback and work your way up. Probably need major connection and work at a smaller bar around town... big chains won't hire you under the table. I was trying to get into bartending but it was too hard to get a barback job, I ended up as a server...

plus I think a southern Baptist Christian who doesn't drink would be an ironic bartender.

Try being an orthodox jew and trying to bartend.
