In California, you already get in-state tuition. Again, don't take my word for it but make sure you mention it when you go speak to a lawyer.

This goes to everyone else. NEVER CLAIM TO BE A CITIZEN ON ANY APPLICATION.
I just checked the very text of the bill. It does not, DOES NOT, include paragraph (3)(D) of section 237(a) of the Immigration and Nationality Act (8 U.S.C. 1227(a)) which deals with the issue of claiming false citizenship.

If the bill goes through without the addendum of paragraph (3)(D), false citizenship claim WOULD NOT MATTER.

For many of us, we had to circle citizen on some applications to survive! It is not fair to forcefully preclude us from DREAM ACT.

The fact that DREAM doesn't mention it is what should worry you. It still applies because DREAM amends the 1996 bill, the fact that the false citizenship clause went unaddressed means it still stands and if you get caught or if they ever find out.... permanent ban.

Anyways, talk to your lawyer.

You aren't the only DREAMer to have done this. When I was applying to colleges back in 2001, there was not the same type of information as there is today for undocumented students when applying to colleges. I didn't know any better and I did what I had to do. This topic has been discussed before on this forum and hopefully it doens't affect our chances to be legalized by DREAM.

Thanks for the info guys, I feel better knowing I'm not alone on this boat. Swim19 I was wondering if you had a link to the thread(s) you mentioned? I really hope they take these things into consideration.

^ no i don't have the specific links. I can look for them later. In general the consensus of the threads was to speak to a lawyer; and if/when DREAM passes to consult with a lawyer when applying for it

Okay, I check with a lawyer friend and he responded "I don't think so" which I can probably make him go further if you guys want to.

For the record, just don't do it because it can bring you head aches like right now. In any case, if you did it focus on getting the DA into a law, then hire a heck of a lawyer and deal with it.

I am not fan of asking this type of info in DAP because some clauses confuse even lawyers. While translating for a citizenship forum, I overheard lawyers making fun of another organization -the present lawyers are all practice lawyers, the other was advocacy.

There is a question in the citizen application that asks whether you help smuggled people and many applicants get scared because they have help bring spouses or children illegally. Well, that is not the question. The questions is if you are a human trafficker.

So why did they wrote a question that produces anxiety, fear and can get an innocent person deported and in the can, 'cause they are bitches! that's why.

The moral of the story is that some things are basic and others are not. More than a lawyer, you need a good scheming lawyer on your side, whether everything seems in the clear or not.

Since it was just on a college application I am not sure if it constitutes a ban, not to mention they don't check every single thing you do. (Dream might check colleges though) but I know people who have had waivers approved who put citizen on an I-9 or a college app. I would change it though. Better safe than sorry.!

Hmm yes, better change it as soon as possible

i always thought all the applications must be enter into a educational system and from there, they will find all your personal information to match it
especially many colleges do common application / electronic application
