you can, only IF you entered legally. I have an order against me, I came here legally; but unfortunately I came wit a fraudulent name; sooo NO changing of status for me.

you CAN though still get married, file at USCIS and go to an interview, but that don't mean your gonna adjust your status... you can use it to help you later on when you want to return

Alex, are you talking about the I-601 process ?

Afaik,Should a person choose to marry to gain an immigration benefit inside the United States after an approved deportation order USCIS would consider it to be marriage fraud.

if you came here legally....you can get married...but that doesn't mean you'll get any papers! They'll send you back to your home country then if they ask you to go to the embassy of your home country where they will "probably" tell you, "" No Visa"! Thanks for your money!! Try again in X number of years....

I know a changito in Michoacan waiting for his X number of years to pass....

stop giving out false information
if you come here illegally, rather your visa expire, cross the border, or any way
you are stillILLEGAL RESIDENT in USA

you can get your green card via marriage, YES, you must marry a citizen, not green-card holder.
BUT, BUT, they will do lots of checks on you, interview you and your other mate.

Many people got caught for "shame marriage", read the news, please

They may decide to have you to leave the country and go back there to submit an application for marriage

According to the 1986 law (Immigration Marriage Fraud Amendment), the married illegal mate is giving at least a 2-years residency in USA. 2 years later they must re-submit proof to show their marriage is still legal.

The Immigration will always ask for interviews throughout your 2-years residency and even after the 2-years.

You must marry a citizen in order to grant the 2-years residency.
They will give you a temporary green card, or residency here. They will check you and your mate's financial record, living proof and all sorts of documents and materials to judge whether you, the illegal, the only reason to marry this citizen isn't for "green card". If they think your goal is to get green card, they will withdraw your green card right away.

People stop giving out false information.

Apparently, this fast-way to get your green card is getting very difficult.
If you really do planning marry your real girl-friend / boy-friend who is a legal citizen, you may do so. You can ask your lawyer to prove me wrong. But let me tell you, I know this stuff because lots of people around me do this stuff. It used to be the most favorable way to get a green card.

I always thought that was possible- you can marry into legal residency. That's what immigration lawyers keep telling my parents but they refuse, alas, no papers.
