I am a citizen from Hondruas i've been in the states 19 years, I'm currently 20 years old. I've graduated high school and wish to pursue my education by enrolling in a 4 year university. I am under what they call the TPS Temporary Protected Status Act. I've been in the workforce since the age of 15 and i've reported taxes every year, as well as my parents and they've been reporting since 1988.
I know that financial aid is controversial. And i know that many illegal immigrants do not qualify because of their status and because they do not report taxes.
My question is: for the immigrants like me who are under the TPS, report taxes, and contribute to the funds of which citizen and permanent residents use to finance their education, why is it that i am ineligible for financial aid, when i too contribute to this fund?

It's the law. Period.
Read this
http://financialaid.gmu.edu/document...itizenship.pdf
http://www.d.umn.edu/fareg/international_index.htm

by the way, you are not citizen. According to your tax inform, you are listed as TPS. You are not USA citizen.

The reason that the undocumented cannot get FA is not because they do not report taxes. It's just that they are undocumented. Please do not mess up the concept behind this eligibility. Even though you do pay the taxes, good person as I say (many of documented do report taxes), we just can't get it.

Hey Paisa, What's up..

I also tried to get Financial Aid, I'm also under the TPS (useless piece of crap) for College and got denial. Oh well.

That's why I'm pushing for the Dream Act (DA), and hopefully we people under TPS qualified for this, if we meet the other requirements (age requirements, education, and time living in the USA).

Good luck

If you are in the U.S. on an F1 or F2 student visa, J1 or J2 exchange visitor visa, have Temporary Protected Status (TPS) or G series visa, you are not eligible for federal and state financial aid.

If you are neither a citizen nor an eligible noncitizen, you are not eligible for federal student aid; for example, you are not eligible if you are in the U.S. on one of the following:

* An F-1, F-2 or M-1 student visa.
* A J-1 or J-2 exchange visitor visa.
* A B-1 or B-2 visitor visa.
* A G series visa (pertaining to international organizations).
* An H series or L series visa (allowing temporary employment in the U.S.).
* A "Notice of Approval to Apply for Permanent Residence" (I-171 or I-464).
* An I-94 stamped "Temporary Protected Status."

However, you may be eligible for state or institutional aid and may therefore wish to complete the FAFSA to apply for that aid. If you are completing a paper form, fill in oval C. On FAFSA on the Web, indicate that you are not a citizen by using the drop-down menu. Please note, however, that if you do not have a Social Security number, the processor will not process your FAFSA. If you are in this situation, you should contact your school for information on how to proceed.

Just because it's the law doesn't mean it's right. Might as well have posted 'Illegal is Illegal'.

But take it as you want it. For future posts, write them, save them, then read them again and if they still make sense post them if not don't. You lack a lot of sense in your posts. Think about your audience/readers or the context of your post, don't just type and push 'post' like a trained monkey.

I don't see anything wrong with this?
He asked a question, and I gave him an answer.
Maybe I shouldn't say, "period!"?

You sounded like I was giving the false information, did I?

I think he understands that under the current process he's not allowed to be awarded fin aid. He's questioning the logic behind it.

well, "that's what the policy said".
They do not consider the TPS is eligible to get Federal Student Financial Aid.

You know, there is no right or wrong behind this logic. I mean we can have the congressmen to change this, but certainly they put TPS away from FSFA.
