You can get a credit card with an ITIN. My parents have credits cards with their ITIN. Its good because you build credit. Im glad you at least were able to get a checking account.

I had a thread yrs ago, about getting a savings and checking acct. from bank of america, the people stating you could not get a saving acct w/o an ITIN, surely misinformed you. b/c i did not receive a ITIN till after i got both my accounts.

Sorry to refresh an old post, but this was the most recent one about CCards that I could find.

Did you apply for them through BoA? As in did you go to the bank? Did you apply online? Any info would be usefull because I've been trying to get a credit card for a while so I can rent rooms at hotels. Debit Cards won't do.

What are you talking about? Debit cards work!

As long as the card has the Mastercard or Visa thingy ( I don't remember what it's called) on it, even if it's a debith card, it works.
I used to work at a hotel and we always took debit cards. Hotels just check your bank account to make sure that you have enough money to pay for your stay when you check in to the hotel, but they don't charge your card until you check out.

Hotels will also take a passport if you don't have any other form of ID.

I heard that you can get credit cards from Bank Of America. But I have a debit card from Bank Of America and I've used it to pay for hotels all the time. They really shouldn't give you a hard time.

You can open a CHECKING account in Bank of America (not recommended), Wells Fargo and Chase/WaMu without a SSN or an ITIN. If want a saving account (that pays low interest on money you have there) you'll need to pay taxes on the interest and that's why you need a Tax ID (ITIN or SSN).

I am quite interested in opening a bank account. Reading what I have, I'm quite confused... would I be able to open an account with ONLY a SSN?

You don't need a SSN or an ITIN to open a bank account in Bank Of America or WaMu. If you want a saving account you need an SSN/ITIN, but for a checking account you only need an ID.

Open a checking account with WaMu or Chase.
