Community College isn't necessarily bad. It depends on your ambitions. While it is true that you may save money, and that you can transfer to a 4 year University..keep in mind that the top Universities accept a very small number of transfers, and that it will matter that you went to a CC.

My advice is, if you can, go for the 4 year University. It's worth it. The education is generally better. It looks better on paper. That's why one is "Community College" and the other is "University."

I want to go into the Radiation therapy, radiation technologist or Dental hygienist field. These only require an associates degree and the pay is good. Does anyone know if these are good fields to go into?
radiation therapy, for cc's is probably a good thing, you have too do some research which cc's have a good program for your major. you will only need two yrs, of college, and cc's are much better than technical schools, cuz they're cheaper. i mean why would u want to go to a university? if you would only want to be in radiation therapy??. what it boils down to is that you're getting educated and will end up taking the same state exam. its just that universities you usually pay 3x as much. now if you want that university school experience than yes maybe. I honestly think CC's aren't bad, it really depends on you and your budget.

no CC's arent bad at all. You just have to stay focused and get ur act together. As far as RAD Tech and Dental Hygienist, you can do those programs as 2 yr Associates Degrees. As far as Radiation Therapy, you have to build on top of your RAD Tech education or take a 4yr program at a University(at least that's what my counselor's have told me...I'm in the RAD tech program at my CC). Either way, they are all well paying careers, especially the Radiation Therapist one. Good luck with everything!!

It's only bad if you make it to be. For most students, community colleges are the extension of their high school years. However, if you work hard, go to classes, and do your work, you should be fine.

I go to a community college since my parents can only afford a year for the university I was supposed to go to. I'm still in community college, and in my opinion, the quality of the class is pretty much based on your interest on the subject and the professor.

Well that depends on what the role is in there and salary. You do have a choice to go to college for 2 years if you have not done so already.

That depends on your GPA and other activities. Why does it matter where you go?

From my experience the community college is just as good as a 4 year university. It just depends on the professor and the # of students.

Let us be realistic, an employer would rather take a Harvard graduate than a CC graduate. I am not trying to be offensive, it's just how it works. Same goes for Grad School. They look to see where you went for Undergrad.

I don't know why u guys are trying to compare the two. Cc isn't suppose to give u the education that a 4year university is. Thas why you dont find BAs , Masters, or Phd courses at a CC; its not meant for that. It's meant as a stepping stone or a place to get a two year degree to certain career path.

And NO it doesn't matter where to start, it matters where u finish and if our career demands that much.

whereever you go, bust your ass and it will pay off.

Sorry for all he typos and whatnot, I'm on my iPhone. So don't talk shit

It depends on what school you end up in. In my Uni., the transcript shows the credits transferred as just that, it doesn't list the institution where they came from. Since the GPA is calculated on the attended hours at the University and exclude CC hours, you still have to prove yourself to get that 4.0. It really doesn't matter much in a 4 year college, I mean, which employer hiring an engineer cares where the guy took world history or astronomy?

And really, the same could be said of Harvard vs every non-iv league school.

For 4 year colleges, where you have to take 2 years of underwater basket weaving, just start at CC.
