I'm a paranoid freak when it comes to traveling as there is so much that one can lose by being deported. Hence, I would say not to make such journeys unless it is an emergency. I am aware that many people have traveled without any problems, but you never know. So, only travel if you have to. There will be plenty of time to take such vacations once you are documented.

I am almost sure you cannot, I believe that it was about two months ago that new rules came into effect established by the government that a passport is now required to leave and return to the United States... My mom went on her honeymoon to P.R. and returned using her drivers license , but im almost certain that changed

^^ Correct you can't go. I suggest the other direction for vacation. Hawaii!! A passport/permanent resident card is needed to re-enter US. I believe HA is considered a domestic flight.

First, don't go! Go to Hawaii or Florida instead.

Second, if you do end up staying in PR do you still qualify for the DA? Basically does PR count as part of the US? I don't really think anyone here can answer that and something like this would have to be examined by a judge since technically PR is "is a self-governing unincorporated territory of the United States".

PR is part of the Unites States. It's certainly a risk, since immigration officers can check your status if you look suspicious or something, but you don't need a passport, a valid photo ID is all you need. It would be like flying to a destination in the continental U.S.

Hmm. I don't know if it can be considered like flying in the continental US, since it's not a state. You might have to go through customs and they might need more than an ID..

Beatlesfan, why don't you call an airport or airline? Find out if you would have to go through customs and if you need bring something else other than an ID to prove US citizenship.

not for flights within the US. You just go through the first check that everyone goes through (only to match the passport with the flight information), take of your shoes, put your bags through the x-ray scanner and go through the metal detectors, before you head over to the gate and board the plane. After that there is nothing else, you get to your destination and simply leave.

I think for international flights you have to go through a different procedure when you arrive to your destination where they ask questions such as how much money you have, the lenght of time you are staying and if you are bringing any food and stuff like that.
