Has anybody applied recently for the GRE? I searched for threads regarding this, but the best one I found is from 2007. I called the GRE people and they told me that because I'm undocumented I can't take the test, but the university I'm trying to apply to for Grad School tells me that they get undocumented students all the time and that they had never heard of undocumented students not being able to take the test.

Also, what ID did you use? I have a DL which I renewed before my state decided to stop renewing, but I've got a friend who only has a Matricula Consular and a Mexican passport.

You should have no problem taking the GRE. In addition, the ID forms that you have should be enough.

I just picked up my passport yesterday from my consulate to use for my EIT. I know the deadline to take it in the spring is the 29th.

But I haven't even started planning to take the GRE yet! Are you taking the paper-based test in February? What did you do to prepare for it?

Does anyone know if the computer-based test is the same thing? One can just schedule for it any month of the year, correct?

Venom, thanks for replying to my post a while back, btw! :]

I took the GRE last year and all i used was my Matricula & Mexican passport. It was not a big deal at all.

I kind of rushed into taking it (didn't study), but I highly recommend prepping for it! Whether it's by a course (kind of pricey) or just buy workbooks and work through them.

I took the computer one, and as far as I know it is the same thing as the paper-based test.
Good luck on your test!

You can def take it. Whoever you talked to must have not known what they were talking about. You will need your unexpired passport though to take it. The nice thing about the computer GRE is that you get your unofficial score immediately after taking the test.

What do you mean unexpired passport? I used my unexpired Mexican passport to sign up and take the GRE.

I mean a passport that is not expired. I don't think an expired passport will work...
