Also, I dont think its appropriate to offend others because we are just sharing information based on our experiences... and as we can see now... our experiences differ... but it doesnt mean that Im right and you are wrong... or that this is the only way to do it.

I will answer questions/post more details over the weekend...
I was wishing you luck on page 6 and I can't believe I missed this!! THIS IS AMAZING!! I'm so so excited because I know that other dreamies might be able to benefit from this as well, myself included. When are you leaving?!

Congrats!! I've been following your story since you first posted that you were planning to apply. It all seemed to get done so quickly. What's your field of study? Do you think your connection to the mexican consulate influenced the decision? Looking forward to hearing more about the transition process.

It seems the reason everything went so smoothly is you mailed everything through your Aunt in Mexico, so it looked like you were currently residing in Mexico. Am I wrong? Do you mention anything about your status in US?

ANSWERS:

-Field: sicence/research
-I STRONGLY believe the local Consul's advocacy played a major role in this process. Visa was processed within 2 days. No interview or medical exams required.
-Im planning on leaving by the end of the year. No need to go back to Mex. since Ive got the visa in hand.
-Yes, I mailed my application to my aunt who in turned mailed it to its final destination. However, on the application I provided my residence address (US) and my mailing address (Mex.). Also, the application asked for one's "Personal History" in which I mentioned the places I have lived in (cities) since I was born until today. I feel there are things that are obvious just by looking at the entire application package, but certainly, I never lied. Regarding my status, my small supporter group suggested I didnt mention anything about it unless asked (they said to be ready though).

Everyone should be clear that Beowulf's method might work for others or not since there might several factors at play considering he is Mexican and maybe under some clause under NAFTA or his recent diplomatic relations the outcome was a positive one.

Yesterday at Canadian consulate in Miami the person who answer my sister's questions pointed out the following:

Quote:
If you are not a citizen of the country where you submit your application, you may have to provide proof of your present immigration status in the country where you apply.
From: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/study/s...-documents.asp

In addition she was also told that I should apply in person at the Canadian Embassy in Venezuela just in case an interview is required.

Congrats!!!! I'm really happy for you.... I think I may follow into your footsteps sooner than later, since my situation is very similar.... Just a quick question, how did you get your local consulate to advocate for you?? All the best and let us know when you make it over to Canada!

onemoredreamer,

It is sort of a long story, but I gained more support through my professor who is friends with the consul honorary... and the consul honorary asked the consul general to get involved.

What did the consul do for you? Did he write a letter for you to include with your application? Did he call another consul in Canada?
