I think my sister pretty much made up her mind to go return...
At least someday.
She says she's fed up with Dream act and her life here..

I don't neccessary support or disaprove her decision right now, because I lack information...

So my question is....
She's still in High school...would it better for her to finish her high school here and go back?

Or...should she just go now...cause she can apply for freshman year in high school, and younger you are better chance she would have at adapting to new environment?

I'm worried because we are Korean...and Korean school can be extreamly hard.
She doesn't know her Korean grammer too well either.

Please...share your opinion with me..I don't know what to do...

No I think she should stay here and get an American degree.

But feel free to go back to Korea if you guys are fluent enough to succeed in Korea's top universities. I think it's a waste of time to be educated here and stop at high school.

She should definitely stay here. 4 more years... Who knows, maybe Dream will pass in 4 years.

As Arnold would say: Stick around, minus the 12 inch knife to her chest.

I'll be 25 very soon and I'm still sucking it up, you couldn't believe how messed up I am right now, I'm weighing my options every day. Hell, I even gave some thought of being a dog to the French when I read that dude's Foreign Legion thread.

If your sis can pay college with waitress tips, it definitely helps her having a degree from an American college.

Specially since she's Korean, you guys came here on a visa, who's to say she won't find a long term boyfriend who can adjust her status with marriage?

I agree with all of the posts above.

Tell her to stay in the U.S. for 4 more years to get an American degree. I'm also Korean and soon starting my 3rd year in college in NY. These days, I'm starting to seriously think about returning to Korea after I graduate in 2 years. I went to Korean middle school for 2 years (I came here when I was 14 in American age) and comparing Korean school system to American school system, it'll be much better for her (assuming she came to the U.S. at a much younger age than I was) to finish up her education here. Yes.. Korean school system is really tough and can be very competitive... Though there're now a lot of Koreans who have some education experiences in English-speaking countries like the U.S., American college degree is still deemed respectful - that's as far as I hear from about 99% of Koreans I've met. If she still decides to go back to Korea after graduating college, she can at least teach English there or SAT stuff... A LOT of Korean students prepare to study abroad to the U.S. so they need good SAT tutors. Just look around how many Korean international students are here studying lol...

I can understand how frustrated she and you as well, feel these days... Korea is changing at a too quick pace and even I, who spent half of teenage period in Korea, am worried and even scared to go back and re-start my life as a "real" Korean living in Korea. But I at least speak Korean fluently since it's my native language... your sister may have much heavier concern than I do. But still... I strongly suggest she finish all her possible education in here and go back. Remember there are too many elites in Korea and though it's now considered a 1st world country, it can't accept its every elite citizen to workforce... If she really wants to compete with Koreans who lived their entire lives in Korea, she needs "something" that stands out (like American college degree and further M.A. or even further Ph.D) to "survive."

Good Luck to you guys! Oh my God... I feel like you guys are my own sister and brother... =] Please tell her not to feel discouraged since there're a lot of people who are in similar or same situation as her...!!

Let's not start with this again.. lol..

If you were here by B1/B2 Visa, have you tried renewing you & your sister's Visa in Korean embassy? Call your local Korean embassy and ask them. Call is free. Also, definitely consult a lawyer if your visa can be renewed. Some lawyers offer free consultations.

If you can't renew your visa, she should stay here at least until she finishes high school. Because if she tries to transfer to a high school in Korea, they might not except some credits and she might get left back.

If your state offers in-state tuition to undocumented students, definitely stay for US degree. She can go to community college part time waitressing and then transfer to a 4 year state college.

Of course, the best and easiest choice is to tell her to make a nice American boyfriend and marry him. lol jk

You are young and you still have time to say put....and even if it isn't waiting for DA, you can still use that time to get a degree here so once you come back to your country, you'll be off to a good start. You owe yourself to at least leave with an American degree if the US goverment won't legalize us. This is primarily your home....take something of it with you (A DAMN GOOD SOMETHING, LIKE AN EDUCATION), and use it well somewhere else.

Good luck.

Lol there's no harm in staying here for a university education. And meanwhile, who knows, Dream could pass although I doubt it.

At this point the DA is not something that anyone should depend on. I'm 18 and i returned to my country this month and honestly it's hard to get a visa to the US so once you leave don't expect to come back anytime soon. If you have the opportunity get your Degree first, do it. It should makes things a lot easier in terms of starting salary. The average salary( if you don't have a degree/ good job) and the cost of living does not match up at all, which can be said for a lot of 3rd world countries.

Being back unless you left mega young is not that hard. You will eventually re learn everything and it won't be a big deal. The hardest part about leaving i think is not knowing when you will return to the US and not having the parents close by. I would never advise anyone to leave high school and go to another HS school in another country, the education system is different so you could be held back a year or the work may not be what you are use to.

Once you leave you realize that that there is life outside of america and it really isn't that bad (unless you live in a war torn country). Just try to return with things that will set you up for a decent life if you can.

I'm a third year in college right now..and I plan to go back to Korea after I graduate in two years. I suggest that she stays until she graduates from a reputable 4-year college at least. If she can get into an Ivy-League (there are some that will offer to pay all your tuition), then I say she definitely stay here for at least a bachelor's degree. Good luck!
