After speaking to the U.S. Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, Sen. Lindsey Graham told reporters, Tuesday, that he is willing to give legal status to undocumented immigrants, but only under the condition that the borders be secured first.

“If you secure your border, control who gets a job in America, I’m more than willing to give a legal status to the 10 or 12 million so they don’t have to live in fear,” Graham said. “But they have to come out of the shadows, they identify themselves, they pay a fine, they work, pay taxes, they learn our language, and if they want to be a citizen, they get in the back of the line.”

Lol yes he is a Republican. It is still irrelevant for him to say that, until they actually do something don't believe shit. Plus what is secure? What are the guidelines?

You also have to look at what who he is talking to, the chamber of commerce, Money moves mountains my friend, money wins campaigns, money keeps people happy, money buys everything in this world. Plus look at the trend, companies have stopped bills that target undocumented immigrants in AZ, why? because they need cheap labor, and companies know these bills are hurting them so they are starting to stand up to the republicans and telling them to stop it with these kinds of bills. Not because they care about us but because they need us, cheap labor means more profit to them, no more cheap labor, no more profit, no more luxury, no more bonuses for the CEO's etc. Money is money... money talks like that ACDC song lol...

Its impossible, you have to account that people are still going to be getting in. The more secure the border, and I am only assuming he intends just the prevention of people entering the more massive the cost in implementing that technology. the trend becomes exponential in nature. Right now we are spending about 9.5 billion a year, and some estimates from 2005 estimated the cost of deporting 11 million undocumented immigrants was greater then 200 billion (this was on an article today, if anyone else caught it, I read it on my i-phone and can't find it anymore) I postulate the more complex we make the system, the more secure we try to make things, the greater the cost and the greater the risk that we will be overpopulating the prison system and be forced to take out more deviants into society faster in order to house people whose only crime was taking public transportation and trying to survive who saw no other way of surviving. Its all counter-intuitive.

This is just an excuse to not do anything and say you would trying to appease people that don't see this for what it really is, just playing with words but not really being committed to anything.

Susan Collins did this when she voted against the DoD bill, she was the one vote that could have allowed it to go to debate the bill, but she said she would vote for the DA and DADT only if stand alone, this was before the elections, after the elections when the DA came as a stand alone and far more restrictive then the version that was in the DoD bill, she voted nay. It's all about politicians trying to ensure they get elected but not using logic or common sense for the greater good of the people.

Even after they pass that they'll say it's not secure enough. What's in the bill anyway?
