In some of the state schools, all you have to do is make a donation that you can afford, and promise that when you make money later on you will give a bit back as an alumni.
UNAM barely makes the top 200 at best. Tec de Monterrey gets less recognition but it's much better than UNAM.

Not really. I am just looking forward from being rejected from both public universities here in Tijuana because I don't have a clue about Mexican history and the entrance exams are bullshit. Hopefully they will take into consideration that I am not from here...

I'm back in my home country in Asia. It's pretty good so far, and a lot better than life in the US. I'm in a tourist city and working in English media. I get to go on luxury yachts, dine at fancy hotels, all for free since I'm part of the press.

It's heaven compared to what I endured in States. I think I can make an entire life all around Asian countries and possibly Australia and be happy that way.

However, it only works if you speak both languages well. If you do decide to go back, make sure you can SPEAK it near-fluent and gradually get better on reading and writing. As long as you have a US degree and skills, you'll be fine in your home country. I thought I was going to die of depression here but I'm doing quite alright and living a good life.

let's get real here ...all the encouraging posts so far are nice but let's not delude ourselves ...

for every one of these feel good stories, there's probably 10 fucked up ones...lots return and face hell and wish they could return, or worse, kill themselves

If you don't speak the language and you absolutely have no family in your home country, then it would be hell and I wouldn't recommend going back. Living in another country and working in your field is a lot better than waiting tables back in the US.

Hey I'm having a great time right now on Semana Santa. I'm in Ixtapa and I have a whole two weeks off! It's packed and the weather is beautiful.
