I don't know about other states, but in Californian non-citizens are essentially banned the ability to have arms due to harsh laws regarding the transportation of firearms. This combined with other state gun laws effectively deprive those of us in California from firearms.
You can buy a pistol in Cali as a permanent resident. But NO ONE can carry a concealed weapon in public, I love Cali but hate their gun.policies.

Wtf are you talking about? I'm about to be 27 and I have a Criminal Justice degree which is the biggest field in which guns are used. I have actually thought about being in law enforcement when I have everything in order in the future. By the comment you made, the only retarded kid here is you.

Pardon my ignorance, but what can you do with a degree like that??

Some of the jobs you can get with a CJ degree are: police officer, probation officer, crime scene investigator, forensic specialist, legal assistant, county clerk, correctional officer, security specialist....and a few more that don't particularly come to mind right now. I'm thinking pursuing a law degree some day though. My main goal has always been to become a prosecutor.

To transport guns via vehicle you do need to be a citizen though. Most of California is hardly walkable, so in effect non-citizens can't have guns, unless they intend to keep 'em home. Damn California and its gun laws. =/

My neighbor and I love guns. We've been to a few guns shows in the past and to the shooting range. He has a few nice guns that he has let me shoot a lot. He's actually a permanent resident so he's all good in that aspect. I recently read though that a gun dealer here in Texas was spending some time in prison for selling somebody a gun who was not here legally. Also, the ATF website states that anybody who is not here legally and purchases a firearm can be prosecuted and spend 2 to 5 years in prison.

I've always wanted to have my own for home protection and to have in my vehicle because Texas is big on protecting yourself and your property. But it looks as if I won't be enjoying that privilege for a while.

Hey man, nice degree. I am actually majoring in Criminal Justice too. Trying to get into the law enforcement profession. What sucks is most agencies here in California require you to be a US Citizen. The good part is the limit of applying is age 35. So I have 15 more years, and I am pretty sure by that age I will be a US Citizen.
