I just went today to get my learner's permit/restricted licenses and sign up for the road test. Road test is Dec. 31th. Was under 24 so I didn't need to take the written test.

Total Cost:
Restricted DL: $25
Road Test: $11

Make sure you have two residency papers with your address on it, with one showing you lived there for more than 90 days.

Took about 1 hr including the waiting.

Are you asked for the 2 proof residents papers when you first go to apply?

By restricted, I mean it looks like a regular license, but has a B restriction, which requires you to have a person 21 or over with an unrestricted license in the front passenger seat. That's the only difference. If you don't want a restricted one, take the road test, not just the written and vision. The day you apply, you will get a temporary paper version of the license you applied for. The real thing will come in the mail in a week or two.

What? So when we get the restricted license, we can't drive alone? LOL

Can you renew in person for the Texas DL if you have a valid TX ID? Which means by showing just the TX ID to renew your TX DL license.
