I went today for my social security card, & all I needed was a valid passport that is not expired & my EAD card. Now I have to wait 7-10 business days.

I went today. I was only asked for my EAD and my original birth certificate. Don't have a passport but they didn't ask for it anyway.

I think its just anything that holds importance that matches your name and dob on your EAD card, so either a passport or birth certificate will do.
