I applied a couple of weeks ago to South Florida State College and at first they told me I didn't qualify for, in state tuition because what USCIS gave me was a working permit for work but nothing for school. Well, I filled out the application anyways. Then the sent me a letter asking for a copy of my ss card, immigration documents, and my dad's info, since I put that Im his dependant. Just last friday they told me that they put me down as a FL resident and that I will qualify for instate tuition

Wow thats great news. That made my day.

I believe the problem is that i told them i got my status through DACA something I shouldnt have done . Please help me and tell me what documents you submitted and was this your first time in college ?

Also does your ss say only valid with employment authorization and your id say temporary ?

Yea, I think my problem is that at first I just showed them my EAD. Well I faxed them the Residency affidativ and I put that I depend on my parents. I also sebt the approval letter for deferred action and copy of ss card and EAD. For my dad, I sent in his green card, fl id, and property taxes for 2012. And yes, this will be my 1st time in college and my ss card does say valid with DHS.

Any updates? I think it helped that your dad had a green card since you filed as a dependant.. but what if our parents dont have one?

I'll ask about that, but I think you could still qualify. In the florida guidelines for residency it says that those granted deferred action qualify for instate tuition. I think the website to see that is flv.org. what I. Don,t know is if you qualify as soon as you are approved for deferred action or have to wait a whole yr.

AT FIU you need to prove your years of residency in Florida, I know this because my cousin was applying to FIU and didn't start on time because he lacked proof for 2009. Miami Dade might be more willing to help.

Yeah I went to Valencia before DACA too and a lady said no to me too. About the other schools accepting us for sure I don't know, I got that info from the "schools who give instate tuition thread".

Yeah I will let you know what they say, I already sent an email and the guy didn't know what deffered action was lol.
Hey! Im going to apply to Valencia as well!
They will say no, but ive read their guidelines for FL resident tuition and it said that if you've been granted deferred status (any kind) you qualify for instate....so might as well give it a try...I will.
Keep me posted how it goes for you since im on the same boat for the same school

I am planning to apply for residency at FIU but I am not sure whether I should talk to someone at the school or just fill in an application (since I read someone asked and they said no but they applied anyway and got it). However, I am looking at the application http://admissions.fiu.edu/how/forms/residency.pdf , I am guessing we are under category F because of the employment authorization but on the second page I have no idea what letter to check or how to apply. Anyone know?
