I suggest apply to both!!!! In this case, if you dont get accepted to one school, you still have a chance to get accepted into the other one.
You dont lose anything by applying to both schools. However, if you get accepted to both school programs, I suggest to go for Cal State. It is going to take you 2 years to get associates degree in nursing (the same time if you decide to go to a Cal State, but instead of obtaining a associate's degree, you will be obtaining a Bachelor's degree).

having gone thru the whole applications process, and now a new grad from a BSN program, i would highly suggest going to a school that would give you your BSN if you can. ADN's aren't being hired anywhere anymore, the job search for me with a BSN is tough enough. you really want that 4 year degree. most hospitals with new grad programs will not even consider your application if you do not have a BSN.

apply to both, but really really keep your eyes set on the BSN programs.

yea. go for BSN... I did ADN because i had no option. I live in a hole and the best thing we have here is nursing school in a community college. BSN programs are in SD and there is a checkpoint on the way so i stayed in the valley.but GO FOR IT!
good luck

I really want to get into CSLB's nursing program but I hear it is so competitive everywhere. Do you have any advice as to how to make your application look better? Thanks!

to be completely honest all nursing programs are extremely impacted. your best bet is to get straight A's in all your prerequisites and GE's. with a school like csulb, you ESPECIALLY need to get outstanding grades because their program is one of the most difficult to get into. also do some volunteering at a hospital. i went to csuf, had a 4.0 when i applied, and so did most of my classmates. we all definitely had above 3.5's.

most csu's have a point system. the higher your grades, the more volunteer hours you've acquired, and the higher your TEAS score, the more points you get on your application. they usually take the students with the most points. you also get special privilege if you've served in any branch of the military.

most nursing schools are heavily impacted. my friends/cousins who were rejected or had a hard time getting into a program ended up having to go to a private nursing school. like mount saint mary's, west coast, apu, etc. and those cost literally something along 100k for your bachelor's.

also, some schools will prioritize students who already attend their university. i know that csuf stopped accepting transfer students into their nursing programs, therefore it's only open to pre-nursing students who already go to school at csuf.

Do you guys know what csu's accept students in spring for nursing? I live in north hollywood and I'm applying in spring again since I haven't finished my pre-reqs. Also where did u guys volunteer? I tried volunteering at a hospital but I couldn't since they require background checks. :/

Go to CSUMentor Click Here.

then click on Apply Online-->Application Filing Status Report. This will get updated and will let you know what schools are open to receive applications for the semesters you want. This is a great website that will give you info.

As for the CA Dream Act, I believe there is separate thread on that topic and many students did receive aid. Check it out
