You have to go to the SSA to update your status and so that they can send you a new SSN card.

Just head over to ssa.gov and read up.
Everything you need is there, including the ss-5 form for you to fill out and print.

I already had an SSN that was previously not valid for employment. I've gotten approved for EAD, but I haven't had the chance to go to an office to update this information. Do I need to do this before filing my taxes? Or will it not be a problem if I do this after filing?

ATENTION ALL!! I applied for my ssn yesterday at 9am, and got a printout today at 9am, wooooohooooo! Also, the lady told me that if the mailbox where you live is not specifically designated for you, the mail man will not deliver your new snn card. So make sure that if you live in an apartment and the lease is not in your name, make sure you take a paper and write your full name and tape it somewhere were the mail man will be able to see it. VERY VERY VERY IMPORTANT, THATS WHAT THE LADY AT THE SSA TOLD ME.
