I did a search but nothing came up. So I was wondering if anyone has actually gone and gotten an ID before a Driver's License? I read that a ssn is optional...but does the ID have like a waiting period for them to check the EAD???

First check if you state allows you to get an ID and DL at the same time, otherwise you're going to end up paying twice.

whoops sorry!
I live in texas... and I checked the page and from what it says I interpreted that you can in fact have an id and a DL they just need to have matching addresses. Im just wondering wheter I can go and get my id as soon as I get my EAD or I need to wait a few days.

Wait for your EAD then get your Social Security card... Most states (I'm a New Yorker) ask for SS card when you apply for ID/DL. Texas should have its own guidelines btw.

As a note in CA you only need to know the ss#, I went to apply for my ID today (in CA). Make an appointment if you can, I did and it was a breeze.
Also it costs $27 buck-oruus.

They asked for my SS
Take your SS, your Work Authorization card. One of your USCIS letters (Must be official the fancy paper one) and one more letter under your name that proves you are a Texas resident. You can visit the Texas DPS site and it will give you a list of things to bring. It says it's optional but they apparently need it for people like "us."

NO you DO NOT need your SSN for your TX ID. You only need it for your DL. Trust me.You just need your EAD besides your other proofs of residence. It didn't even seem like they tried to verify it. The process was so fast, they just scanned it and that was it.

How soon after getting your EAD did you go get your ID?
