Do they let you apply for an ID and take the permit exam in 1 visit?

Yes, mark both the ID and DL boxes on the application and you can do both.

What do I need to take with me on the day of the behind the wheel test? I'll be going to the DMV in Hollywood. Unfortunately, I heard they're notorious at failing people. Gahhh.

Your permit, the car's proof of insurance, car's registration, and the person who drives you there needs to have their license obviously.

I applied for my ID and permit on the same day at the SimiValley, CA DMV. I tested for the permit and passed.

I got my ID in the mail today, and sadly, it expires in two years. And it's not even two years from the date of my application--expiration date is the same date as the expiration date on my EAD card

Since it was on the same application and processed by the same person, I'm guessing that my license will expire on the same date. Super disappointing
