i filed taxes like a week ago. i was using someone else ss and would file under my itin. this yr my tax prepaper said i would have to file under my new ssn, i did and the irs approved my refund but a friend told me thats gonna come back and affect me cause they r gonna c i was using someone else number since i only had my ssn for a month. what do u guys think. the lady who filed my taxes told me i should be fine cause the gov knows so many ppl r filing under a fake ssn and as long as u file thats what counts. what do u guys think?

I worked for two years with a fake ss# and used my itin to prepare taxes for those two years.
Everything went smooth, I got my tax return for both years as well with no issues. The gov obviously knows that people use fake ss#'s. All they care about is if you filed or not.

Ah I see, yea that won't be an issue. My friends mom got her residency a couple years ago and she worked with a fake ss# became legal and updated her new ss# & she just applied for citizenship not too long ago so i think you're safe.

The only people that take a look at your tax return/information are IRS and they can't deport anyone since that's not their job. They also can't provide your information to DHS/ICE unless you authorize them. So you're safe. Also you have to resign your ITIN since it's no longer useful.

Yea, I remember there being some sort of confidentiality clause with the irs & the feds where they can't share your records.

No you have to give them permission to share that information. They are only able to without your permission if you are accused of a tax related crime.

Besides like I said that's not IRS job their job is to collect taxes not go around collecting undocumented immigrants info and giving it to ICE.
