Isn't the Dream Act requirement to have finished 2 years in a 4 year institution? Or two-four years to stack up credit in a Community College to transfer into a 4 year institution? That's very expensive..I mean I live in California so thanks goodness for the CA Dream Act but for others..? I can see how that can be a problem. Community College is (relatively) cheap but paying for a four year institution and paying your own rent/car/insurance/food, that's going to be hard. I have no idea if we are allowed to get loans, but if that's possible, that's one way to pay for it. Or juggle it all..it is possible, but it sounds like hell. But we can't really complain, can we (because if we do complain just a bit, some people freak out)?

It's called life. I was making $4 an hour (back when minimum wage was $4.25) and paying for half of the household expenses. Worked one year and saved enough to take 4 classes at night at the community college the next year. Took another 4 classes the next semester. If you stick with it, don't go out much, don't waste your money on things, it can be done. The first 2 years of any 4 year major aren't hard...finishing is the hard part.

Community colleges are 1/4 of that if you're in district. about a 1/3 of that if you're in-state but out of district. Get the basics out of the way and you'd save $10,000 easily on your final college education.

Sorry to keep posting on here but one thing about community colleges that you should be very careful of is their ultimate goal is to hand out associates degrees so they can say they graduate lots of students. That may or may not be YOUR final goal if you plan on getting a 4 year degree.

Make sure and after a year or so, talk to an adviser at the UNIVERSITY you want to transfer to and the College that pertains to your major to make sure you only take classes that transfer to your major. In my case, I got bad advice and wasted time and money because the CC adviser told me "sure they'll transfer to the university" but she forgot to mention about my major.

Example: Computer science degrees only count Calculus and above math classes. College Algebra, Finite Math, Trig, etc. are all wasted. Sure they'll help you with calculus but if you were good in math in HS, just test out and jump into Calculus. Physics: Only the calculus based versions count for science degrees.

Subscribe to a community college and be a part-time student, would be my advice. There are also courses online for free. Even though they don't count for a degree, they are a pretty good place to get an education.
