Sorry, I'm not down for piecemeal. Nope. Kidders/Dreamers, we're all in this immigration thing together with the other 11 million.

Let's be real here; do you REALLY think that these bills are going to act in our best interest with House REPUBLICANS like these at the helm?

REPUBLICANS CAN KICK ROCKS.

Just wondering, if dreamers get citizenship from this KIDS ACT, can't they petition their parents afterwards?

Sure, you can petition your parents in about 10 years once you're a citizen (assuming they'll give Dreamers a green card after 5 years)...then in about a year or so your parents qualify since they're immediate family. But wait, they came here illegally? If yes, they have to leave the country to apply and when they do, they're subject to the 10 year penalty so in about 20 years they'll be a green card holder and a great burden on your family

Alright thanks for clearing that up. I guess I'll just wait and see if Republicans make this an actual solution for dreamers or if they're just throwing dreamers a bone to shut us up. Oh also in case people might want to know, my aunt didn't have to leave the country to adjust status because she proved that her absence would cause hardship on a us citizen (my grandmother she is taking care of). I'm sure most of the 11 million undocumented immigrants have an immediate family member who is a citizen and can bypass this process of leaving the country then coming back.

This all reminds me of the drama last year over Rubio's supposed dream act. The fact of the matter is that these are the same people who shot down the original dream act in 2010 and are shooting down CIR in 2013. And we're now supposed to trust them to propose a fair and legitimate "KIDS" act with the chance to actually pass?

All this seems to be is a pathetic attempt to salvage face for the Republicans. CIR seems as if it will go absolutely nowhere once again.

^ This seems like the case at the moment.

It took the Senate half a year to go through their drama, it may take that long just for the House to humor us with "We almost have a bill ready!!!" and it will turn out they just mean 1 of many bills in their, as they put it "common sense piece meal approach"...so yea don't expect anything to happen.

Start preparing those DACA renewals, we may need it for a couple of cycles more.

Such a fucking shame...smh...

As of right now, we may still have one glint of hope...

...and thats Big Obama to the rescue...

I believe Obama may be strategizing on the best time to jump in this whole drama, derail the Republicans stalling and release DACA for all undocumented individuals. But he may still be working out how long more to wait before he is almost certain CIR will not happen. I think the last thing Obama wants is to jump in too soon and cause CIR to fail when it might have passed this year...He wants to be certain.

I also read somewhere on the forum that a discharge petition can be used to bring a bill to the house floor without John Boehner but it requires 218 signatures. There are 201 dems in the house so assuming all dems are onboard, they only need 17 repubs. Since all democrats voted yea in the senate, I'm hoping its not such a longshot

That would be incredibly risky though and could cause perhaps a legal crisis if done for 11 million people. Plus if he did that it would surely sound the death knell for CIR. Republicans would never ever want to proceed on any course of conciliatory immigration action ever again.

I don't think this is about drama or trust though, but about the consideration of a Dream-like proposal by a notable House Majority that simply always baulked at any "amnesty",to make staying in the US a crime or pushed enforcement only in the hope the "problem" would go away!

We already know what the pitfalls are concerning this in the House and the point is Dreamers have to watch how this develops carefully.Whether we like it or not legislation in this Congressional cycle must get past the House Republicans and should and watch any effort attentively, especially if it starts in the House Judiciary!

There is one other significant detail I really suggest Dreamers to look at from a different perspective.Dream act has only ever passed the Senate attached comprehensively and has passed the House of Representatives piecemeal in the past. The numbers within Congress were obviously different then, but the process by which the bill passed during those times looks to be the same this time and in the same Congressional cycle!
