You have to wait 2-6 weeks for your card to come in so yes you have to wait...

hahaha, you want to do everything in one day, thats cute. Federal buildings are notorious for being slow, you would have to sit there for hours for them just to call your name/ticket number and not to mention the huge line for the number itself.

The DMV is a well known culprit of this. For license, you must pass the writing test, and then schedule a date for the road test, there is no way you can do it on the same day even if you have your social security card with you (although I heard some states that allows you to take the road test right away, not exactly sure). In order to take the road test, you also must present a certificate that says you have watched the several hour long dull movie about traffic safety (which you can get from any driving schools, also might vary from state to state).

Enjoy.

no, you can just use the # but the # wont be issued to you until everything gets cleared by DHS. which would be in about 3 days depending on how busy they are.

it all depends on what state you're in. Here in CA you just need to know your number so you can have a print out since they dont ask to see your actual SSN card. other states, like TX, you will need to show the actual SSN card in order to apply for a DL/ID. also you'll have to wait at least 2 or 3 days for a print out of your number. if your SSA receipt says that you should receive your card in 2 weeks then try going about like on thursday and get a print out. if it says to wait 4 weeks then it will take longer to get your SSN card and a printout my not be possible that soon.

look up what your state requires.

I went into my local S.S office on a Monday and on Saturday I received my S.S card in the mail. If it was not for the 4 of July holiday I believed I could have had it sooner(maybe a day sooner). Then On the following Monday I went to the DMV to take my writing test ,which is easy if you had already been driving and know the rules of the road like I had. I pass the writing test and called that same afternoon for a behind the wheel appointment.I was given the appt for that same week on a Thurs. Passed the behind the wheel test and was given the paper license. It took less than 2 weeks for me to get my D.L( 8 days). It has been a speedy process for me. I live in California by the way.
