This morning, I went to the SSA offices to apply for a first time social security number. It felt like an immigration interview Anyway, I applied and provided all of the required documents but they told me that they were going to have to send my birth certificate to get translated. I had a notarized translated version but the lady wasn't having it, she said it had to be done by them and it could take up to 4 weeks. I've read that some people even walk out with a print out with all their info including their new social #.
Has this happened to anyone else?
Maybe I'm just over thinking it lol

The SSA does have to do their own translation of the Birth Certificate if the person that helps you out does not understand the language in which your Birth Certificate is written in.

I don't think you can walk out with a printout of your number right after applying. It takes a while for your SSN to be generated.

You been reading wrong, SS office doesn't generate a number for you before they check you out, no way can be done on the same day. Most people got a print out the next week or so.

Most people receive their SSN within 7 days, so you can get a printout a day or two after applying, in most cases, if everything turns out right.
