Eh, I can understand OP's predicament.

Wasn't there a whole bunch of posts discussing whether or not we should put the social security numbers we have on our documents etc? Some had put fraudulent socials on their apps and got roasted by the board.

Fact is, not everyone is coming to immigration with a lot of information about what to do, not to do. He probably assumed that even if he got a social security number, because he used it while it was "not valid without employment," it wasn't really his. We don't know the context to how he got the social either so....

We have to remember:
a) We're all not coming from the same situation. Some of us have socials (legally or not) prior to DACA.
b) We don't all have the same information about immigration laws, social security, etc.

I'm glad it worked out with the OP. He simply didn't know. Plus, MANY of us had told other posters to leave their fake socials OFF of the application so I see this as an innocent mistake.

This. There's many of us who have a social not valid for work, myself included, but not everyone knows how they got it.

I have a social not valid for work and when I was going over the daca application my Attorney put down "none." I told him I had one and he asked me how I got it. He was skeptical and wasn't sure and instead of writing "none" we left it blank. He assured me if it was in fact legitimate then they would know and I would get the same social I have.

Now, if we had put down my social and for whatever reason it turns out to be fake then I'm probably phucked for claiming it as mine.

How can a grown ass man not know whether his social is real or not? Come on, let's save that "I didn't know I was illegal!" bullshit for the TV interviews. If you're here illegally, you know it. If you have bad documents, you know how you got it. I have one of those "Not valid for employment" social security cards too. How did I get it? While we were still in the good graces of the government, we went to the social security office and they gave us one.

THANK YOU!!! I explained many times it was not being very knowledgable about the situation and it was an honest mistake that I didn't realize I did until I received the new SS card and it had the same number !

Well I think we shouldn't be shouting at each other for committing fraud, because most of us have done it. Unfortunately there was no other way. My dad had a legit ssn, and he had TPS, he lost his tps because he didn't report his new address when he moved so his application got denied. This is an important lesson, if you move, DO REPORT your new address to USCIS, he could have filed a change address form and re-file, but he was ignorant of immigration laws so he lost the opportunity he thought that was it, and TPS if you don't file on time, is gone. Some times I used my dad's social to work, because he and I share the same name, though I didn't have any Ids so this made it really hard for me to get some jobs. Anyways, I think this was an honest mistake by julio216 , and shouldn't get in trouble for this because if they really wanted to get people in trouble most of us would qualify for that trouble and that is what deferred action is trying to cure in the first place. Of course you can always be honest and not get in trouble, if you would have asked the clerk the question whether you would get a new number or have the same one as before, even with the previous limitation of work permit, I am sure the clerk at the ssa office would have answered to you and not get you in any trouble, because I think they expect you to have worked illegally, I mean everyone knows that, specially if you are applying for such relief.

Stop freaking out, if they call you in to ask why you lied (I'd say there's an extremely slim chance or them doing that) just explain that you thought the number you previously received wasn't for employment and didn't consider it a working number, just tell the truth.. Nothing is going to happen, you're clearly not trying to get 2 numbers

I also have a SSN that was stamped not valid for employment. The reason I received it was because we came here with Visas. Not sure if my father came here with a work visa and he got a regular SSN. But for us they gave us the socials so he can report us on his Taxes. Been using that number ever since for everything since it's mine anyways.

He ask if you were issued you a number not if it was not valid for work. That was it. You lied to him but it seems it was on your own confusion. It happens
