I think I've heard of this happen to some. What they mean by verification is they'll look you up on their databases to make sure you're in the system & all info is correct and you are in fact allowed to get an SSN. Even if you bring the original EAD & passport, just looking at it is not enough. They have to actually find you on their system, and DHS's. This is why some people recommend that you wait 10 days after receiving EAD before going to social security office. For many, they can verify right away when they're there, but for others it takes a few days before you're completely on the system.

also, it's EAD

I went in today and took my EAD card, birth certificate, state license and the approval letters from USCIS. The lady that helped me was very friendly and even congratulated me not once but twice!

Well that makes sense, I did get the original documents back, AND I went as soon as the shut down was over because I got my EAD (Thanks for telling me, IDK why I kept saying AED lol) anyway, 3 days before the government shut down, so it had been at least 2weeks AFTER i got my EAD. I just hope I get my SSC soon, it still a little unsettling that I haven't heard of anyone else but me on these forums getting this. POO

Hope i get it soon, thank you so much for the help

To OP hopefully you get your SS card much quicker than 4 weeks. I was told the same thing but received it in a week.

I hope so too!! I haven't gone to the office yet, but I will this monday I think. I live in NYC and there are only like two big card centers. I'm afraid that because of the shutdown the offices here are going to be so busy with lots of people lol.

Just wanted to update, in case anyone finds this,

I went to apply for my SSN yesterday. Probably the easiest experience I've ever had at an office. I gave the first lady my EAD, DL & SSN application. 5 mins later she gave it back & told me to wait for my name to be called.. Then when I was called the guy took all the docs, typed on the PC for what seemed like forever, 10 mins later gave me the receipt. That was it. Not one question asked lol
