i have flew LGA (regional) and JFK (international) with just passport without visa. no problem. they just need to verify you are the ticket holder.

And I understand you only have to go through TSA when you go out, not when you arrive right?

Also, if the flight has stops, do you have to go through TSA on every stop?

It's been a while since I flew so I don't know the details.

My plan is to flight from regional airports and arrive at internationals (since I'm assuming there is no checkpoints when you exit).

Unfortunately I can't get a State ID, though I know it would be more secure.

You should be fine with an EAD as well I presume. Just dont think anything of it. When I received my EAD man I was walking on cloud nine. Just be calm, friendly and casual and you'll be okay.

I'm new to this forum but I have been browsing this forums for a few months and finally decided to join in.

I know there have been countless topics on flying undocumented and the risks.

I am undocumented and don't qualify for DACA because I came to this country when I was 17 years old.

I will get my Nicaraguan passport soon, of course with no U.S. Visa. I have a student ID from San Francisco State University.

I also work as an Immigrant Rights Organizer with FAME, a faith based organization, and they are planning to fly me to Chicago this June for a conference.

I'm terrified! Please offer some helpful tips. Is Amtrak safer?

Is it true that flying from regional airports is safer?

Thanks in advance for your answers!
I have flown countless times before I was issued an EAD with just a foreign passport. TSA main jobs are to insure that the passport/ID is valid, legitimate, and that the first & last name matches that of the boarding pass. It doen't really matter what type of airport you travel out of, the rules with TSA generally stays the same. Some airports choose to have more security than others.

To help ease some of your nervousness, I copied this straight from the TSA website.

Quote:
Acceptable IDs include:
U.S. passport
U.S. passport card
DHS "Trusted Traveler" cards (Global Entry, NEXUS, SENTRI, FAST)
U.S. Military ID (active duty or retired military and their dependents, and DOD civilians)
Permanent Resident Card
Border Crossing Card
DHS-designated enhanced driver's license
Driver's Licenses or other state photo identity cards issued by Department of Motor Vehicles (or equivalent)
Native American Tribal Photo ID
HSPD-12 PIV Card
An airline or airport-issued ID (if issued under a TSA-approved security plan)
A foreign government-issued passport
Canadian provincial driver's license or Indian and Northern Affairs Canada (INAC) card
Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC)
Non-US/Canadian citizens are not required to carry their passports if they have documents issued by the U.S. government such as Permanent Resident Cards. Those who do not should be carrying their passports while visiting the U.S.

you go through TSA only once; that is when you want to enter the waiting area for your first flight (even if you have multiple connections, if any). if you need to board a connecting flight most people will wait in the waiting area of arriving airport(no TSA check). of course you can exit the waiting area if you have time to kill but when you come in again you have to go through TSA make sense?

as long as all your flight course is within domestic flight you will be fine with just foreign passport. only in-bound international flight will go through immigration check.

Thank you all for your helpful replies!

I guess the burning question that I'd love help answering: Regional airports safer or not? I'm willing to pay more to fly through regional airports but only if it's safer.

Thanks!
