I hope someone can help me here!! I'll try to provide as much info as possible.
I'm 20 yrs old. Got my ssn early last year and had my first job in april.
Now, I live with my mom. She's not here legally and does not work. I pay for everything. We're having a hard time deciding if I will be able to claim her as a dependant on my tax returns? She's been in the country for over 16 years.

As long as you can prove that you covered a majority of her living expenses for that tax year. You will need to apply for an ITIN for her if she doesn't already have one.

You should go to the IRS website and check it out. Every state has different laws and requirements.

Yes you can claim her on your tax return. But when it comes to major credits like Earned Income Credit, you will not get them since she has ITIN. But yes, she is your dependent for tax purposes.
