Guarantee you they would not let him board in scenario 1 (although it does have the C33, the only thing these people will read is the big sentence saying "Not valid for reentry."). That document is equivalent to a green card for him (and all of us of course) the way I see it. Its good once you get it and even the EAD to completely store both of those away somewhere safe! But you're right, technically he doesn't really "need" it but in cases where he has to prove he is lawfully present, that document is the one to prove it.
Mmmmmm, now it makes sense. Thanks!

My thinking was that since the EAD card shows C(33), why does he also need the letter to prove his deferred status? It's not like he got his I-765 application approved without is I-821D also being approved at the same time. So if someone were to doubt his deferred status, can't OP just show the EAD and be done with it?
My Broseph Gordon-Levitt; I'm done. HAHAHAHA

ELIS: https://myaccount.uscis.dhs.gov (Requires an access code USCIS sends you through the mail. You can also get it by calling customer service)

CS: USCIS Customer Service phone line (they can probably help too)

E-Request: https://egov.uscis.gov/e-Request/Intro.do

That notice is critical and you should absolutely seek it out if you haven't gotten it, especially if you ever try to normalize yiur status. It will help a lot... USCIS likes paperwork!

EAD does not grant you DACA

I821D grants you DACA.

EAD is a work permit.

I821D protects you from deportation. EAD does not.

That is why I821D is important too.

Try again, I tried to log in right now and it worked. Maybe it was down when you checked.

Try this link:

https://myaccount.uscis.dhs.gov/link

After you enter in the 8-digit code they text you, you will be directed to a page that asks for an access code to link your account, ignore that and click near the top where it says "Click Here to go back to the original account view". And voilà, should work.
