I'm in a situation where I only listed the country I was studying abroad at. Now that I'm here, I want to take the chance to visit neighboring countries before going back.

Will that be a red flag? I figure it wouldn't because none of these countries are problematic places. It was also my understanding that the listing was only a procedural thing. After all, when I come back I'll be talking to a CBP officer, not USCIS who are the people who actually dealed with the application.

Shouldn't be an issue. Are you in the European Union?

No, Don't do that. Seriously you can get yourself in some problems. Advance Parole is used for you to get permission to visit a specific country only. You shouldn't be going anywhere else besides that country. What country are you in (the one you got AP for) and where would you like to go by the way? Just the fact that you said you "want to take the chance" makes it seem like you yourself are doubtful. I'm assuming when you go to each country they will stamp your passports and what not. If the parole officer sees that you're done.

I asked this like 2 years ago since i wanted to head over to colombia after being in mexico.

Someone replied saying that they didnt had an issue... Something to keep in mind is that colombia does not require a visa for mexicans tho...

I think it would be something like this:

US to mexico then colombia... Then to return colombia then mexico then to the US

Its a risky thing but maybe can be done just not worth the YOLOs since at entry I believe it would be up to the TSA/DHS agents to let you back in the US lol.

If you are in Europe (in the Schengen area) your passport is only stamped once and you can go around neighboring countries. I myself went to a second country that I didn't list on my AP application and I had no issues coming back. I had a layover for about 9 hours in Europe and the airline offered a free tour of the city while I waited for my next flight. I went to passport control as well. Coming back to the US, I wasn't asked a single question but totally depends on the officer you get.

I've traveled outside the US with AP four times this past January. My main trip would always be to Mexico but I have traveled to other counties as well. One of my dreams was to backpack a country other then the US, so I got a chance to do so with AP. I do have a legit reason to obtain AP due to my sick grandfather. Every time I applied for AP I only listed Mexico as the only country that I will be travelling to, while abroad I will visit other countries then the one I listed. I've backed-packed Dominican Republic, Haiti, Aruba, Curacao, Panama, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru and of course a all of beautiful Mexico. My passport has been stamped many times as these countries require entry and exist passport stamps. I've never had any issues what so ever upon my return to the US, going through immigration and customs has always been very smooth these last four times. With that being said I don't see you having any issues with just listing one country on your application. Happy Travels!

PS. I consulted with several immigration lawyers before leaving on my first trip and they all said that I shouldn't have any issues going to other countries, just to avoid countries of conflict to the US, mainly the middle-east.

Forgot I posted this. But no, I'm actually in South America and am planning to travel to two other countries once the semester ends. My citizen wife is with me and we'll be returning to the US together at the end.

That's good to hear. I figured the same thing. None of the countries I'm visiting are war zones or terrorist havens or something like that. Can I ask what the process is usually like? Extensive questioning or just a formality?

I'm in Chile now and considering going to Bolivia and Peru. I'll be flying back from Chile too. I wanted to visit Mexico as well but that does seem out of the way. I'm also getting married here and Bolivia and Peru are my honeymoon.

That's nice. Which country? You could travel between MERCOSUR countries with just your cédula de identidad from your home nation. Same if your from a Comunidad Andina nation.

No questions what so ever about any of the countries I went to. If you can go to Mexico, i highly recommend it, Mexico City has a lot of history and Tulum has some of the best beaches in the world.
