They had no leverage to begin with. No, they weren't going to shut the government down long term for Dreamers, no matter what you think, the political world doesn't revolve around us. That's the truth.

As much as I've become frustrated by the Democrats and more cynical of their desire to actually get something done, I will never give the GOP high ground over them. The House was never going to pass anything but a markedly conservative bill, and history has shown us that both in 2006 and 2013, when the Senate passed CIR only for it to stall in a GOP House. Even if the Democrats remained steadfast during the shutdown, the discussion would be centered on how the Democrats shut down the government over Dreamers. That would have only given Trump more leverage to veto any legislation that came out of it, particularly a bill that didn't severely limit family-based immigration. Shutdowns help the party in power.

Yes, there's been a lot of posturing on the Democratic side, but it was a Democratic POTUS that gave us DACA, and a Democratic Senator from IL who has been our most ardent champion. It was a Republican POTUS that ended DACA.

Agreed. Very well said.

And like his Democratic predecessor, Pres. Obama, he does not have to persecute non-criminal immigrants. He chooses to attack our communities with cruelty.
