More Senator Dick Durbin Retweeted Donald J. Trump
Give me a break. You killed DACA and have now rejected six bipartisan deals to protect Dreamers. I’ve been fighting for Dreamers for 17 years and will never abandon them. We could pass the Dream Act today if you simply called on the Republicans who control Congress to support it.

Let’s be honest, President Trump’s plan is to ransom these young Dreamers in exchange for his entire anti-immigrant agenda.

Reducing legal immigration by more than 40 percent by barring Americans from sponsoring their parents, siblings and children as immigrants.

Fast-tracking deportations of Central American women and children fleeing gang and sexual violence.

Dramatically cutting the number of immigrants from African countries that he hatefully disparaged.

Yesterday the Senate rejected the President’s immigration plan by a bipartisan supermajority.

Democrats and a handful of courageous Republicans tried to free the Dreamers by paying that $25 billion ransom for Trump’s infamous border wall. But he rejected that offer.

The American people can now see the President’s agenda for what it is, and it’s not protecting Dreamers.

Trump got called out by Durbin! :O and he is right in many points....
He is right - Trump relentlessly attack immigrants and have no good faith intention to help. They negotiate because they need funds.

God damn it, Durbin does make valid points. But, for fucks sake, why did the Senate Democrats give up all their leverage on spending? They either trusted the Republicans too much to negotiate in good faith and got screwed over, or they are legitimately using us for the midterm and presidential elections. That is the frustrating thing, they know how Trump and the GOP is. Why didn't they hold on to that fucking leverage until getting a bipartisan agreement that they could vote on and Trump could ratify?

This is the twilight zone of immigration policy. One party wants to deport and maybe offer to help in exchange for something. The other party wants to help but is not using its leverage when it needs to in order to make the other party come more to the middle.

I agree, the Democrats are the lesser of two evils, but for fucks sake, this is unacceptable. Do they plan to use leverage by March 23rd? I hope so. But, maybe not. This is so frustrating; if you want a more "liberal" agreement, use your fucking leverage. If you do not, then you will have Trump making all these fucking demands that you will not like. By then, you make yourself look bad as a spineless bitch and you leave us out in the dark. By then, you have to vote no.

JUST USE YOUR FUCKING LEVERAGE DURBIN. For fucks sake.

If they want to protect all Dreamers, they need to use their leverage stat.

Yeah, that's my whole issue with the Democratic leadership. How could they every think they were going to get a fair deal without any leverage?

Trump tried to screw them over hard too. Trump knew Democrats were now weakened and tried to milk the shit out of them. I can see why the Democrats voted no, but they could have prevented all of this by simply using their leverage. Until that happens, I doubt we can get anything.

I am ok with a DACA patch if that's all we can get. I know congress would be ok with that. I really doubt Trump is ok with that. He stated about two days ago that it was either his plan or the highway. He particularly shutdown the idea of a DACA extension. In a way, Trump wants to prevent the Democrats from using us for the election and get credit for some immigration reforms.

Points is...Democrats must use their leverage, or you can very likely expect nothing until we get a new presidential administration.

Trump even said he wanted to shut down the government over immigration meaning he was most likely willing to negotiate

I remember this. But, since he viewed the Democrats in a weak state, I think he tried to milk the shit out of them and get everything he wanted.

I don't know. Either the Democrats use their leverage, or Trump backs off some of his demands.

Here is hoping.

Chris Hayes on Twitter: "The reason is that *he and GOP leadership do not actually want to protect Dreamers from deportation.* But because they recognize how indefensible that view is, they lie about it instead."
