I'm a Mexican citizen wanting to live abroad. I've applied to study in Japan knowing very well that I won't be able to come back to the US since no AP and I am ok with that. I got accepted to their program and I am currently waiting for the COE (Certificate of eligibility) to get my visa processed. Now my question is would I have to leave the US and go process it in Mexico or could I do it from within the US?

I called the Japanese embassy and they asked me about my immigration status and I told them I am a DACA recipient and then they said it was ok as long as it proved being legal here then they said if I would be able to come back and I told them no, so they asked what I would do after that and I just told them after my studies are done I would go back to my home country or transition into a work visa. The lady on the phone first said that would be ok as long as my itinerary said I was going back to Mexico so at this point I was satisfied but then I reassured her that I wasn't too sure if I had to do it from Mexico or here and that was my reason for the call and thanked her then she asked me to hold and she would double check then about a minute or two later she came back and said I would need to go to Mexico and process it there so now I am not sure if she is misinformed or not.

I know some people here in the forum have studied abroad but I couldn't find any info on how their process went when processing their visa. I would assume that they didn't had to go back home to get their visa. Different countries have different requirements. Any responses are appreciated.

That is one advantage. Did thought if worse comes to worse in my case then can just buy a plane ticket and sort a visa during that time there.

Not sure why you’d need your visa processed consider Japan is visa free for Mexican for up 90 days

Be sure that going back to Mexico afterwards is your REAL plan because Japan has a very strict immigration system and does not give out citizenship to foreigners even if you marry a Japanese citizen.

If I go as tourist then the visa won't be required all I would need is my passport and an entry ticket to Japan and an exit one back home but if I am going there to study or work and will be staying longer than 6 months then I do need a visa.

Right now the real plan is to get to japan and study there as a student I can even work part time up to 28hrs a week and after the student visa ends then I can apply for a work visa while still being in the country. Which is my overall goal or just extend my studies. I contacted the Japanese embassy in Mexico and explained my case and they told me if I needed to process the visa there then I wouldn't have any problem but still hopeful I can get it done from here once the COE arrives.

Good luck to you.

Just as a piece of advice, watch out for run-on sentences. Oh, and plan out your future carefully. Japan has some weird immigration laws.
