Yup, 5 year license with Federal Limits on it. I'm guessing all CA licenses will have federal limits if they are not Real ID now?

I just renewed my DL and I was surprised to see that it did have the federal limits apply lettering on the right hand corner, they asked me if I wanted to apply for a REAL ID but I didn't know at the time it was different. It is good for 5 years. At first i thought it was because of DACA but then at work i have to request ID from clients and i noticed even american citizens have the notice if they did not go to a physical DMV office to request the REAL ID. I guess in essence it makes Californians more united becuase now its going to be harder to tell the immigration status of someone based on their ID or DL.

It's not about DACA but the employment authorization card. That's what gives us the ability to get a license in some states, whether real-id or not. NJ license is one of the most difficult ones in US to get as it requires the 6 points based system. NJ was considered non-compliant because the id card didn't have enough securities to avoid counterfeits - it can be easily copied! They are still working to improve the ID card so it's not available yet. When it becomes available, you will be able to replace what you have by just passing the 6 points again.

Hey guys,

My DL expires in Sep. 2018 and my EAD expires in April, 2020. Should I renew it now or wait until Sep? I am afraid that if I try to renew it now, I am not going to get the current expiration that's on my EAD.

I live in NY, should I get the Real Id card?

Hey guys, I'm from California and I just renewed my Drivers License. I got the Real ID. I didn't get the one with Federal Limits Apply stamp on it, as I brought in all documents required. Proof of legal residence, SS card and my registration with my proof of address. Not sure if someone already mentioned this on the thread, but for California, as long as you bring the required documents, don't renew online, you don't get the Federal Limits Apply stamp on your DL or ID. However, I did only get it for a few months, Jan 2019, that's when my EAD expires. I'll be submitting my renewal in August, hopefully get renewed by Jan and have to go back to the DMV and reapply again lol.

P.S. I think it's weird when people complain about the expiration date on their DL when just a few years ago we weren't even able to get one, at least in certain states. In the few years that I have been able to have a DL, my life has changed so much, things like drive without worry, travel to different states, heck even just order a drink without having to explain to someone why I had a "matricula" card. I'm so grateful for it, even if it's for two years at time.
Maybe we should show a little more appreciation for the progress we've made and you never know, soon enough we might even get a green card.
