What is happening at the border is foreign policy.

The long-term undocumented population with decades of work, families, jobs, houses, etc, is domestic policy. And creating a modern immigration system wasn't prioritized by Dems.

The truth is a white man would have beaten Trump. Both times Trump won he won against women. Many people do not want to elect a woman President and that’s pretty backwards considering you have countries like Pakistan and India and many others that have had female leaders.

There was a promise on the table to take care of our undocumented loved ones. There has been since Obama. And we got nothing.

Things that are beyond reasonable and that would help Dreamers, too: Essential Workers Act, changing the registry, overriding the parlamentarian to include legislation in budget bills. Immigrants are brave, but politicians could not muster a bit of bravery to help million of people.

This 1000%.
It's discrimination and prejudice.

A lot of Latinos also don't think a woman can be a leader and let's face it, they don't care at all about people like us and they wanted to be like their white friends so they also voted for Trump.

Then you had this year's version of Bernie Bros: Arab Americans who pouted and stayed home because of the Gaza/Israel war and they wanted to "own the libs" by getting Trump in and take away the only restraint Israel had. Add the whole "your kids are going to be trans" and "your kids are going to get drafted to fight in Ukraine" fears and it was over before it began.

I really don't know what the DNC can do in the future. Maybe not pander to a tiny minority of supporters when the vast majority hate that group? But then we're one of those tiny groups.
People are so dumb. I have seen the same with Muslims, they are like oh there is war with Biden. You think that Trump is going to be like Free Palestine. Give me a break : It will be the same. No US President is going to be anti-Israel. A lot of delusional people out there voting against their own best interests. Only white rich men will benefit from Trump and the GOP.

There are 17-20 million fewer votes, but more ballots than in 2020?

Call you local orgs and reps about what can be done to protect, even in the interim, as many people as possible from deportation.

Biden fucked big time as did Durbin and the old clowns in the Democratic lack of leadership. Focused only on the new arrivals and not on screening and creating pathways for people who have been here for decades.

MSNBC asked this black (R) lawmaker and he didn't answer what should happen to us. Cruel.

The Biden White House stopped working on domestic policies and economic incentives for the every day person. Sure, Wall Street is doing great. Billionaires are doing amazing. But not the avg person.

Trump won't be better. But he didn't promise prosperity.

This is a right-wing country and full of racism and anti-science bias. Heartbreaking.

Lying to the public about health care, public health, science, undocumented immigrants' hard work and economic contributions, and taking rights away from citizens are right-wing and racist.

You have 0 say on who stays or goes. In fact, your response of 'pack your bags' because I post my analysis, and facts widely known is ridiculous and un-American. Fuck off.

Welp. Looks like things have gone from zero to on fire in a flash. That is alright though I try to keep a positive outlook on things and it does wonders for my mental health.

Its pretty clear that the biggest enemy of the latino is other latinos. While I do feel a little bit of disappointment with the outcome I am filled with a sense of hope, optimism, Schadenfreude, and sadness at what will happen to the innocent caught in between this mess.

For now, I would say its time to save as much money as possible. Update/Renew passports and keep a sense of optimism. Sure, I would like to see beingoflight be right just once and trump somehow does a deal for us, but being realistic I don't think it will happen. Who knows anymore really?

The hope

What also won't happen is mass deportations because that is campaign bluster designed to get people out to vote and the reality is the country depends on illegal immigrant labor and its an undeniable fact. Without the illegal labor food prices, housing prices, and everything following those supply chains will increase in price without an associated increase in wages. So I don't think they will actually follow through, but who knows this race has defied expectations. The UK tried some of this and it just led to supply chain collapse as eggs were not available in many locations. Their answer to this problem is "wages will adjust." Right. Like they have during this inflationary time? When have you ever seen a corporation raise wages because their employees are struggling. No, that money is reserved for wall st.

If the worst comes to worst, and we do get kicked out I won't really feel all that sad and this is kind of a sour grapes moment but it can only become positive on the long term. I won't have to renew anymore and I will get to pick a new country to live in. These last 5 or so years I've spent time gaining high-value skills and I even got to attend a top 5 university for grad school, and got to work one of the most coveted jobs in the country. I think next stop for me under that scenario is to become a traveler. The Mexi passport is surprisingly good for travel.

The optimism

We might get a deal out of this if Trump tries to overcome the senate filibuster. Somehow our biggest stumbling block has now become our biggest savior. Funny how it cuts both ways. If not, then I might get to pick a new nation to live in and there are some juicy prospects though sure I won't make the same as I will in the states. Money isn't the end all be all to life. Though isn't this something that only those who are comfortable usually say?

The Schadenfreude

This is the sour grapes part. The people voted for this mess will get what they voted for good and hard. Elon has gone as far as to admit that the Trump tariffs will be an economic disaster for the average american. Not that they care about it. They just ignore their lying ears and eyes and listen only to Trump. RFK will ensure a national heath disaster as the weakened herd immunity causes measles and other things to re-appear. So much for the life-saving vaccines. They've spent a good chunk of time demonizing those. Along with other health disasters. Trump will just be trump and probably bankrupt the country like he bankrupted 6 other times including a casino. Lmfao how do you screw up a casino. The government will be ineffective because all government employees will be required to have loyalty to trump over basic competency and merit. I.e. the perfect seeds for corruption.

The Innocent

I am sorry to those of you caught in this mess. I obviously can't do anything about it. You have my undying support and whatever remains of my optimism and $35.

Good insight into your view. I agree to an extent. The 2 year renewal and living on a shoe string is mentally exhausting. We should all do ourselves a favor and stop worrying. If it's something you can fix, why worry? If you can't fix it, why worry?

I hope the Republican supporters here are right. Time will tell. The best thing to do is have a plan when 💩 hits the fan.

Our biggest enemy has always been Stephen Miller, it was he who worked to kill all of the deals. I hope that clown is not part of the administration
