I have mix feelings.

The law is applied inequality. That is reason number two why immigrant are becoming citizens. What is just a slap in the wrist of a citizen, makes a permanent resident deportable. That is not fair.

Still, I do not like drunk drivers. An educated person should know better.

The question is, should the police handle people to immigration? There is no doubt that because this is the case, he got what was his. We can think whatever we want from the guy but this is the reality of the event.

I'm a U.S. citizen and if I knew that driving under the influence could mean deportation to Mexico, i wouldn't consider doing it. I occasionally drive after having a beer or two, but I've never received a DWI, and I've never had an accident. EVER. But like I said, if there was a chance that I could be deported, I wouldn't even drive after drinking 1 beer. screw that. All it takes is a breathalyzer and a reading of a high blood alcohol level and you're screwed. this guys was stupid.

When I read this post, I was thinking the exact same thing. This article does nothing for our case. It will only inflame to see this guys blatant persistence at trying to stay in the country after a DUI.

I drive with out a DL due to circumstances, but i would NEVER drive drunk. That is just sheer idiocy. I dont even use my cell anymore due to California laws changing.

I have no sympathy for ppl that get DUI, my best friend from HS was killed by one.

Get a designated driver. I am sorry for being a party downer. If you haven't ate for a while or are dehydrated, you can still get boozed headed. Just because it has not happen yet, it does not mean it will not happen.

All it takes is swerving into oncoming traffic and killing an entire family.

DUI is a big crime in my opinion. I dont feel sorry.

DUI does not affect good moral character. the fact that he drove without a license at the same time makes it an "aggravated" offense; witch is considered a CIMT.

he would've still be aligable for the Dream Act if he had a valid license when he had the DUI. but he was driving unlicensed at the same time. witch is a deportable offense.

do i feel sorry for him?... we all make mistakes and have a poor judgment especially when we're young. but i didn't make the law.

^uhhh, DUI is anything BUT demonstrating a good moral character.

I don't see how having a license affects the DUI violation, licensed or not, it's still the same offense. The only difference is that it'll just expedite the process of discovering his legal status by not having an ID. If you're arrested (which you will be) for DUI, they're going to run your records anyway.

If any parties involved with his DUI citation was hurt, it could've been bumped to a felony.


Not only do I think he should disqualify for Dream (not because of the DUI, but dragging the image of our group into his shit storm,) but the fucker should lose his license/privilege to drive regardless of his immigration status. As someone already said, it's all easy for an intoxicated person to swerve into a car full of family and wipe out everyone.

I'll reserve my judgment after I know how much exactly he had to drink, you can easily blow a .08 after one single beer and have a DUI stamped on your record for the rest of your life.
