If he left after 12/31/11 he would be disqualified as he left on his own
The bill we saw said anyone who left or was deported after such date is disqualified

Are you from mexico? So you've lived here in the USA and knowing you were undocumented and decided to take a semester in mexico? So you came to the USA via crossing the border or overstayed your visa ( which ever ) and you left to mexico intentionally and planned to cross the border without inspection hoping everything would be PERFECT?? That is way to risky to do in my book. You are technically barred from the states for 10 years for all we know from DHS. Your best bet is CIR and who knows if you will qualify since you did depart the country and entered illegally intentionally. You were gone a whole semester. Well, best of luck for you! but I'm sure you were aware of the risks of taking a semester in mexico knowing you EWI. Lets hope CIR wont make a big deal about your departure!!!

for lawyer, you can search up your state's bar association, and look for their pro bono department. call them, and tell them you have no income and are in debt, needs help with immigration. they should able to help you!
or take a look at http://www.safehorizon.org, they are a non for profit organization, they may help you for free or a very low fee!
good luck!

You didn't get denied cause of that one month. You got denied cause you were out of the country for 5 months. (That's what I think I'm not a lawyer though)

Good luck in CIR man, keep hope!

Yeah, when they say brief they mean brief. I don't believe there is any public definition of what brief is, but 5 months is no brief. If you left for 2 months for vacation you'd have a case. 5 months, sorry man, but nope.

Sorry to say I don't think you have many options because you knew you were undocumented and you left (subject to 10 year penalty) and then you came back here again (I'm guessing unlawfully) so by all definitions, you're not a Dreamer since you obviously had means to make it in Mexico. If you were able to live there for a whole semester, it might be an option to just live there. For a lot of us, even going back home for one day is not an option. Either this was blatant or you got some very very bad advice.
