Thanks Hopefuldreamer. My Birth Certificate is in english so I'm good there. Also, I think your from Florida, right? Well, anyway, I go to a prominent University, and I was hoping that I could use my ID to possibly get a Driver License, or even a simple identification card.

While I know that the http://www.hsmv.state.fl.us/ lists certain documents needed to get these, I was wondering if I could possible slide past by some slim chance. Do you have one HopefulDreamer?

Nope, I don't have one. They really don't give any leeway in FL to get a DL or ID since some of the 9/11 hijackers got valid IDs from FL. After that was uncovered, FL stopped giving out IDs and DLs to people here illegally. Actually, from what I know, if you are here with a nonimmigrant visa, they will give you a DL/ID with the word "TEMPORARY" written on it. So yeah, there's pretty much no chance they will give you any kind of state ID.

Ohhh...what university do you go to? I've been trying to expand my options since I can't go to my dream school [UF] because of obvious reasons, heh. Do you go to a private school?

Yep. On my FL id card, "temporary" is printed in bold, red letters on the bottom right. It's like a brand, but I suppose it's better than nothing. It also expires in a year, instead of the 5 or whatever years they usually give.

At one point I had a SS card, a student ID from a MS University, a student ID from a Quebec University, a SIN card, and a birth certificate. Mostly, I was covered.

Then my bloody wallet got stolen.

Replaced the SIN card (think. . . canadian social security, stands for social insurance number), and the birthcertificate (hah, only the wallet sized, not the full sized) - which took about two years. Last week I sent in a second application for a canadian passport. (first one was rejected, joy).

I got nuthin with a picture anymore. Far as I can tell, on paper, I don't exist. :P Which is. . . interesting.

Yuppers alex. *sighs* The term I was given is 'legal limbo' - used by both people at INS and by the lawyer I spoke with. *rolls eyes* I don't seem to fit in *any* category at the moment.

are you still in high school? and why can't you go to UF? you can't pay for it? or do they not accept illegals?

if you can pay for it, try fsu. they accepted me. you're probably gonna end up going to community college though. (though if money isn't a problem, i'd recommend rollins college. very good private university). where you live is important too. if you're in miami, you could go to UM or the same CC juan went to.

^ Dude. It is so much more complicated than that.

I can't think of a single University that blatantly states they do not accept illegals. The application process gets muddled when you are unable to provide a SS# which they assume would suggest that a prospective student would need to benefit from various loans/financial aid, etc.

Institutions of higher learning are NOT ICE/USCIS. They do not go around policing their student body like them.

Additionally, acceptance to universities is not the issue. It is paying for them.

Going to UM requires approx. $40,000 per year.

It goes even beyond being able to pay for a University. If Hopefuldreamer were to go to FSU, it would require her to either live on campus, or find an apt off campus. Not so easy if your undocumented.
