Strange. For some reason I thought them running a credit check when I installed power/gas (both of which I had to pay a deposit for after the check) and them asking for my SSN meant they'd report wether or not I make my payments on time.

Nope, all they are checking is if you have any unpaid balances with any other utility companies under your name.

And that's not true... You also don't want to carry zero balance as it makes it look like you are not using your cards, which is bad for your credit.
Anything between 1-20% percent is the perfect range.
