1st question
I don't think texas schools care if you are illegal or not since they dont have a system in place for checking, but i have a ss number so I dont know what would happen if someone didnt.

2nd question
It depends how much you get or what major choose. I really got a 6000 per yr if i went into engineering, but wasn't interested so it was 4500 per yr for any major.

The last time I checked I think you can get up to 7500 per yr or so for any major and 9000 per yr for engineering. That would basically cover all your tuition for 12hrs and would probably have left over along with the financial aid from tasfa, if you apply. So you could use that to pay for books, room board... etc.

Its on their website, but I think you have to get the scholarship b4 you start your first yr a few weeks after you apply and its based on your gpa or sat in high school. Ill look up more info when I have time.

Hello,
i have been the recipient of the TASFA grant for the last year and a half. Basically once you apply you will get about $1,500 per semester which is the TPEG (Texas Public Education Grant)
and then the rest (about 500 to $800) will come from the schools trust.

Rememeber you must apply before or during your sophmore year for the TASFA or your will not be eligible for the TPEG allocation of the grant (the most amount of money). And also remember to apply EARLY each year because the TPEG is a grant therefore it is LIMITED.

if you have any more questions let me know

Yeah Texas is pretty weird its a solid republican state, but Bush was really immigrant friendly as a governor and signed the "texas dream act". Also gov. perry is also immigrant friendly so it probably wont change.

It's pretty weird that some of you have gotten such good results from the TAFSA. After $300 both semesters freshman year, I've gotten nada, even though I've filled one out each year. And I haven't heard anything this year even though school starts in like a week. I can still squeeze by, but I can't help but wonder if I'm doing something wrong. Hmmm...

I just found out today that my Academic Excellence scholarship was cancelled also...and school starts on Monday. If I hadn't checked my Peoplesoft, I would have never known. I'm not sure what me being undocumented has to do with my grades or GPA or SAT scores. I'm seriously pissed right now.
