They account for 23 and 22 percent of the budget and that's not the real problem. The problem is that this two programs are projected to double in two years. Now you can make all the cuts you want military save maybe 1 percent of the budget (let's be real) wasteful research 2 percent if we eliminate all research more likely like a cut of .2 percent, safety net programs 4 percent if you totally eliminate food stamps and cut all kinds of programs. That's maybe 6 percent and in two years we would probably be even more in the hole. The funniest thing about our situation is that we are going to pay for all those racist old timers that don't want us here. Because like it or not we are the only way they have to pay for those two programs.

But to the point if congress wanted to really lower the national budget by 20 percent eliminating the 1.4 trillion deficit and probably creating a real jump start on the economy they should rework medicaid and social security. But no congressman is going to touch those two dinosaurs because they won't get elected if they do. So get ready for higher taxes and less services in 10 to 20 years.
It is a myth that social security is the cause of the deficit. Here is an enlightening interview from a prize winning journalist that describes the media's complicity in misreporting facts about social security: http://www.cjr.org/campaign_desk/soc...iii.php?page=1

The interview starts as follows:

"Trudy Lieberman: What are we to make of this consensus on fixes to Social Security that some in the media tell us has been reached?

William Greider: This is a staggering scandal for the media. I have yet to see a straightforward, non-ideological, non-argumentative piece in any major paper that describes the actual condition of Social Security. The core fact is that Social Security has not contributed a dime to the deficit, but has piled up trillions in surpluses, which the government has borrowed and spent. Social Security’s surpluses have actually offset the impact of the deficit, beginning with Reagan.

TL: Why don’t reporters report this?

WG: They identify with the wisdom of the elites who don’t want to talk about this—because if people understand that Social Security has a $2.5 trillion surplus, building toward more than $4 trillion, people will ask why are politicians trying to cut Social Security benefits?"

The larger lesson from this interview relating to DREAM is that the reporting on the invaluable benefits to society of DREAM, and the benefits of immigration in general, can not be assumed. To the contrary, as we know, even members of this site are not always tuned into this truth. Obama was right when he said that that a more invested commitment must be made to shift public consensus on this issue. It's all one big PR campaign that we are each responsible for.

Hey I have explained why right now illegal immigrants are draining the American tax payer and are a huge part of the deficits that some states are running. But saying that illegal immigrant could provide a economic stimulus if and only if it is prefaced prior to passing a dream act by securing the border, E verify , no chain migration, basically no on every immigration law so to have complete control of no more mass immigration at all. Therefore everyone is on the same playing field there is no more illegals coming in to cause the same problem with economics. Then we will have en economic stimulus that was provided by giving citizenship to Dreamers. We all would be paying the country's bill and for each other services.

If they can pass the DA, then I will have opportunity to create businesses and create jobs and I'll help reduce the deficit.

I'm studying business, and that's why I know what I know on the economy.

I might as well run for senator or representative.

Haha, well said! That's the first good thing out of many good things that will come out when the DREAM Act is passed on a federal level.

Social Security saves more minorities than it does those old white racist. Still calling each other racist you just saw 5 people killed one congress woman shot through the head, a 9 year old little girl killed who was the president of her student council and you still use inflammatory language. That makes you the racist? What you saw yesterday comes from that BS rhetoric and it will get worse if it continues believe me history repeats itself in this country, If you decide to keep up the same hateful rhetoric. When you know what happens when you call people a racist they turn on you and your cause and they win. enough is enough.
