I have no idea. That's just downright perplexing.

If the SSN isn't his then have him register for SS just as any person without a SSN would. They do check your name against the SSN database so don't try anything funny.
In response you said:

Yeah, that's what we were going to do, but I wasn't sure if it was possible considering that all of his records in the US show him as being two years older than he actually is. I guess we could just fill out the paper and see if it works, though.

Maybe I'm misunderstanding the situation.

As far as I can tell, the story goes as follows:

An illegal immigrant used someone else's SS# to obtain a drivers license, (and I assume took on the identity of the original SS# holder).

Now, because his age on the DL is wrong (likely the age of the original SS# holder), he wishes to change it to his real age.

To do so, you agreed to the suggestion of just simply reapplying for SS?

MAYBE I misread/misunderstood EVERYTHING.

It would not be reapplying then. Just applying right? Hopefully he can start out with a clean slate, but I dont know...

I think you misread J6's post--SS means selective service in this context. See how later in the sentence he says SSN for SS#? It's easy to get confused, though, since we use SS/SSN interchangeably around here.

Hello!

I know I'm a little late to this topic, but I just have a quick question regarding this....

If you don't have a SSN, what do you put under the part where it ask for a SSN? ITIN? Or just leave it blank?

How safe is it to sign up? If I fill one out and send it in, are there any chances of ICE or something showing up at my house and busting me?

Sorry for my noobish questions....

Maybe a guy dreamer can answer about the SN part but it is fairly safe and absolutely necessary.
My guess is to leave it blank.
