Would you say that's equally important if the couple has been living together for 4 years before getting married? My partner and I didnt really have a formal 'engagement' process, in many ways it felt like we were already married since we've lived together for 4 years, have shared finances, same group of friends, both families know and all, etc

Consular processing is requesting to have the adjustment interview abroad in the country you hold citizenship rather than having it inside the US.
